I understand the program lost momentum when he was ill but I think he is far enough removed from that to be critiqued. With Seton Hall snatching 2 Lincoln recruits from BK, I think it begs the question of why he isn't landing those types of players. Looking at the team, it seems he is recruiting the best athletes available but not recruiting for team need. There are to many players with similar skillsets.

Terribly disappointing so far, but I'm with NJRedman; let's back away from the ledge. I suppose the Norm Roberts years were so disheartening and dark in my mind that I'm not overly concerned about the program's direction yet. I do worry that Lavin and his staff can't/won't make SJU the #1 spot for local kids (reminds me of Jarvis a little in this regard). SJU rightfully thinks on a national scale but I think a real local foundation is required.

Perhaps more than any other school in the conference, SJU would seemingly have the weakest need to recruit nationally. With all of that talent right in the back yard, recruiting should always be focused there.

I think St. John's has trouble because most of these city kids want out of the 5 boroughs. There is too much unwanted pressure for the kids that stay home. I think the right coaching staff can get those kids to stay home. I just don't think Lavin's staff is that group. He has one assistant on his staff with NYC-area ties. The rest are west coast or midwest guys.
