Creighton has a lot of trouble with long, athletic teams. Lucky for Creighton we have zero shooters on this team. And the calls down the stretch were atrocious. I feel terrible for this team. They fight all the way back only for the zebras to wave off a 3 point play in the final seconds. Only for McDermott to make a 3 to win it. If I'm St. John's, I tell the refs to look specifically for his hooking move. I've seen him do that countless times and never once called. I have no idea how no refs have been choked by St. John's players at this point. That's how terrible the refs have been in our close games.
To the Creighton fans that think you will take only a step back instead of a cinderblock being dropped into the ocean, you are crazy. 91% of your offense including the best player in the country are bye byes next year. I think Creighton fans will be longing for these guys just like SJ fans have been longing for another Jackson, Mullin, and Berry since the mid 80's.
We are losing the best Jay ever, we are also losing a probable NBA 3 point shooting specialist and a couple other players who will end up as coaches, it's going to suck. We won't be challenging for a B East title next year but forgive our optimism as not to be bottom dwellers. We have heard this all before, we heard it when Korver graduated, we heard it when Tolliver graduated, and Woodfox and Buford, Benjamin, House, Sears, Walker and all those teammates that made them shine. None of them (save Big Ben) had many stars after their name, some had none. You don't replace guys like those but you move on, you have faith in your system and coaches to develop that next kid with the work ethic of an South Dakota farm boy or a coaches kid with brains and a sniper quality 3 pointer. Those under the radar kids who are willing to buy-in to the idea that great things happen with hard work, some sweat and teamwork. Trust me, we will be ok, it will take time but we will be ok we are not going away anytime soon. CU is in a better conference, building better facilities as we speak, enjoying what we think will be a long term relationship with our coach and finding those kids that fit the Creighton way. We have 2 good ones coming in, a few redshirts, some young talent and one big fat scholie left to give some stud that wants to hoop in front of 17k on national tv, see all the great cities and venues of the east coast, play in MSG and maybe lead Sports Center if he works hard enough. *Edit......
