Marty C was such a better player than DeRosiers. I love Cotton but he's no BD. I saw Delray drop like 30 on Nova back in the late 80's. Fortune is not Nearly as good. Other than that...spot on.

The point is that Cotton is doing for they team what Billy D did for that one. In fact, Cotton is doing more because Donovan had Screen to come in to relieve him of ball handling duties and Cotton has no one.

Not to mention that Billy D was supposed to be the PG. Cotton is supposed to be the 2G.

What does "supposed to" have to do with it? It is what it is. This is actually a big break for Cotton if he hopes to have any kind of pro career, showing that he can run a team, that he can pile up assists AND score points.

It's a disaster for PC because there's no one behind him. I sat in front of the TV last night holding my breath when he was hobbling for a minute. You'd think they'd pull someone off an intramural team who played point in high school who could come in for a minute here or there just to dish. The current situation is really scary.

Yeah, Conlon leaving really was a wake up call. Chiesa would berate the players on the bench, and practices were swearfests. There were two camps, with one saying Conlon was a baby and the other saying Chiesa was out of control. Conlon returned thankfully for Rick Barnes. I agree with you that his freshman year was a lot like Desrosiers this year... still feeling his way around, a little unsure, but with good length and with 3-point shot ability (though Desrosiers has gotten away from that). Conlon had a much wider game than fellow freshman Abdul Shamsid-Deen...

With Conlon in '87, he played valuable minutes all year, but especially in the Austin Peay game in the tourney; and he was the guy that was shoved from behind in the no-call play in the BC loss at the Boston Garden, after we got ranked, where Pitino said "the refs must've thought a gust of wind must have come down from the rafters".

And another game in 89 or 90, maybe our first ever game at DuPont, Villanova came back from 17 down with 7 minutes left to tie, Conlon hit a 3 to win it at buzzer, but home cooking refs said clock ran out and VU won in OT. One of those tough losses in crunch time that Rick Barnes had trouble closing.

I could babble on about them too. I knew there was something special about the core group the year before. When they added the extra pieces the next fall, I wasn't surprised that they became as good as they did.

I threw a Final Four party at my house to celebrate the season. It turned out to be a wake. With opponent being Syracuse, that was a particularly bitter loss. You never saw anyone more depressed than I was that afternoon.

I meant the "supposed to" as a compliment to Cotton in response to someone saying Cotton isn't as good as Billy D. Billy D had the luxury of playing his natural position as a senior and he had a back-up. Cotton is playing PG, getting better every game, and he has no back-up. I'm astonished by how well Cotton has adapted. I'd say the "supposed to" is pretty significant when rating the year Cotton is having.

I agree, the unfortunate injury to Dunn has probably helped Cotton in his quest for a good contract next year (whether it be Europe or the NBA).

You make a great point! Cotton has had just an amazing season - 6 assists per game and he's IMPROVED his scoring. Incredible. People can say what they want about McDermott, but Cotton is my Player of the Year - especially after last night's game.

i dont remember him yelling but i dont think i liked him very much either. it was a Loooonngg time ago. I may have been older, but i think he had just finished college
