Just look at the teams who win the titles rarely is it a newbie anymore just seems to have a correlation. In regards to recruiting traction I'm not going to go through and look at all the recruiting classes for every team but I can speak for MU having a top 10 class last year, with a top 15 coming in this year so next time we're posed for a run will be the year after next.

At one point past BE NCAA champion Uconn was a newbie, same with Cuse, Gtwon & Nova. This league is built on breaking through not living on past success. However good this season winds up being for the league, it will still be the worst season for the league over the next 5 years IMO- ceiling is high.

BU- Can't see it in the time frame.

CU- Legit shot w/Dougie Buckets this year or not in this time frame.

Depaul- They would have needed to land Cliff Alexander to entertain any ideas.

GU- Possibly this season with DSR leading the way. Possible shot next year if one of those freshman really kills it (LJ Peak) but likely not. But legit shot two years from now during DSR's senior year.

MU- This year represented Mu's best chance in this time frame IMO, but that was before the losses started piling up. Don't see it in the next 2 either.

Nova- Legit shot each year in this time frame.

PC- This was the season too make that run. No shot in the next 2 either.

SHU- 2 yrs from now during what would be Isaiah Whitehead's 2nd year.

SJU- Apparently not this yr, but yes next year if Sampson comes back. The year after that no.

X- If Semaj comes back they will be in the running next year & maybe even the year after w/o out him.

My pick....SHU :D

Don't think you're properly paying attention to our recruiting. If Marquette can pull in Diamond Stone (#5 overall), 2015 will be huge with the guards and wings we have coming in (including our frosh this year).

I'm not giving up on this year and I actually do think both Nova and Creighton have a chance in this year's tourney. I think both are Top 10-15 in the country and that gives you a punchers chance. But next year I REALLY like our chances. Losing 1 contributor in Bell and returning 7 key players who all contribute and adding 2 good Frosh. Hart takes Bell's spot (might be a better player than him now anyway) and everyone else is one year older/wiser/more physically mature. If we win the BE this year, we'd go into next year Preseason Top 5 IMO.

Yeah that was years and years ago before the college landscape changed. New programs don't, or very rarely, win titles. And this league is built on past success. Think of why Butler X and Creighton were let in over Dayton or SLU it's because of past success. Think of why MU and Depaul were let in with Louisville and Cinci it's because of past success. Maybe you five are always looking forward because you've been in it since before you had a bunch of success but the other half of the league got in because of our past success.

Tough Question...my perspective as an X fan:

I have always thought that best case scenario, a final four run could happen every 10 years or so. X had a very realistic shot ten years or so ago, elite 8, leading the game at the last TV timeout. Luel Deng and JJ Reddick made winning plays the last 3 minutes and Duke advanced.

Now, having seen Butler make back to back championship game appearances, I actually think winning one is possible. It takes the perfect storm. Ironically, the 4 star recruiting makes the window open and close more rapidly. We won't have as many David West, James Posey and Romain Sato's sticking around 4 years. Instead we get a couple of fantastic years from Semaj and I am guessing similar from Trevon Blueitt and others.

X is stacked recruiting wise. Next season the level of talent on the roster will be off the charts. If Semaj stays, which is very unlikely based on draft projections, could X win it? Why not. Without him a final four run might more realistically be two years away.

You're seriously trying to answer this question based on POTENTIAL commits over the next few years. Obviously future recruiting makes this a dynamic evaluation, just like players transferring or getting booted off the team, and injuries.

I didn't say the past doesn't matter, I said you can't just live off of it, big difference Boxer. FOX & it's partners bought into the BE based on future success in today's sports landscape, not 1985. ESPN made the same calculation back in the day & it paid off. In my comment. Btw why follow the BE, most of our teams would be considered "new" teams, which you believe don't have a shot to win it all. Your coach has only gotten past the sweet 16 once, but he has coaches like he believes he can win a ship soon and you guys believe him. That's how I feel about the potential for BE teams- all 10 (or maybe 9).

No, I was just adding in Diamond Stone (A legit one and done 6'10 C who was teammates with our freshman PG in Milwaukee) to expound on the point of not getting why we would be left off in this time frame so easily. Have you seen our other actually committed recruits for 2014 and 2015, including our Top 10 class this year and the Luke Fischer transfer? Seems a bit rash (albeit probably aided by the perception of down year) to leave us off.

This year's class- all except for Wilson, 2014 yes, 2015 a little, Fischer -none. Look even though I'm a diehard SHU fan I'm probably one of the biggest BE homers on the board so I hope it happens for MU. But now I understand better where you are coming from & I can agree with your point somewhat. My premise was 3 years & at least one super star. My observations on MU were based on this year's team is a win now team, that aint winning now. Next year begins a rebuilding process with a great foundation, but who's going to be the man to carry MU to the ship next year? It was supposed to be Wilson this year. Next year Fischer or Hill will be looked at but I just think it's unlikely with so many new bodies. The following year I could see it. I'm changing my tune b/c I had forgotten about Fischer & am probably sleeping some on JuJuan as legit wild cards for that role. I just don't know much about Fischer and it's asking a lot of next year's class before we've seen them play one cbb game.
