Who Will be the Next Big East National Champ?

I'm starting this because I'm sick of reading that silly "first to fade" thread...

My vote is Villanova.

If it had to be this year's title, I'd go Creighton or Villanova.

Nova or Creighton seems like the obvious bet, with Georgetown and Xavier also possible. Being only 10 teams though, everyone has a shot. Just need to win a few in a row.

My theory is you need an elite player to win it all. My time frame is this year thru 2 yrs out:

BU- Can't see it in the time frame.

CU- Legit shot w/Dougie Buckets this year or not in this time frame.

Depaul- They would have needed to land Cliff Alexander to entertain any ideas.

GU- Possibly this season with DSR leading the way. Possible shot next year if one of those freshman really kills it (LJ Peak) but likely not. But legit shot two years from now during DSR's senior year.

MU- This year represented Mu's best chance in this time frame IMO, but that was before the losses started piling up. Don't see it in the next 2 either.

Nova- Legit shot each year in this time frame.

PC- This was the season too make that run. No shot in the next 2 either.

SHU- 2 yrs from now during what would be Isaiah Whitehead's 2nd year.

SJU- Apparently not this yr, but yes next year if Sampson comes back. The year after that no.

X- If Semaj comes back they will be in the running next year & maybe even the year after w/o out him.

My pick....SHU :D

If Sampson comes back or Jordan? I'm not sure where Sampson would go considering he's worse this year. Jordan may be able to transfer closer to home dur to his sick mom. That's the biggest risk since none of these pkayers are going to the nba this year.

For what it's worth, Marquette (2013), Butler (2011), Villanova (2009), Xavier (2008), and Georgetown (2007) have all been to the Elite 8 within the last 7 years.

As for the other half? (tugs collar)
St. John's: Last Elite 8 appearance in 1999
Providence: Last Elite 8 appearance in 1997
Seton Hall: Last Elite 8 appearance in 1991
DePaul: Last Elite 8 appearance in 1979
Creighton: Never advanced past Sweet 16
Al McGuire: "What is this?"
Waiter: "Mr. McGuire, that is a cull lobster. Sometimes when the lobsters are in the tank, they fight. This one lost a claw."
Al McGuire: "Well then take this one away and bring me the winner."

Should probably focus on Final Fours for now. But if I were going to talk about National Champions I'd stick to the three who have won it before as it seems that most teams that win it are repeat winners.

What does looking at the distant past have to do with any team's chances of making a FF over the next few years? Better off looking at coaching staffs, current rosters & recruiting traction.

Just look at the teams who win the titles rarely is it a newbie anymore just seems to have a correlation. In regards to recruiting traction I'm not going to go through and look at all the recruiting classes for every team but I can speak for MU having a top 10 class last year, with a top 15 coming in this year so next time we're posed for a run will be the year after next.
