Because it isn't a sure thing, thought you might want to know that. They'll probably be successful and most people have said just that, but there are questions about the program's future that, yes, even Creighton fans are willing to admit. That doesn't mean they're talking about Creighton dropping off in the future, as if it's a sure thing. It is a minor possibility though.

Ok, so my original post was dickish, I apologize. I guess I'm just kinda sick of Creighton having the worst history of any team in the BE, and feeling like we have more to prove yet I think we're holding our own so far. I wish there were four or five teams ranked right now and yes, that includes X. Good luck tomorrow, I'm personally pretty pissed I don't have CBSSN down here in Florida (I got cable to get FS1 for crissake!) and will have to go to a sports bar with a bunch of NFL fans. HO hum.

I can understand some frustration but take the advice offered by some of your other Jays fans and don't get too defensive. You end up reading a lot into people's posts. I don't think Creighton has anything to prove this year (though please, please make the Sweet 16 at least), but it will be interesting to see how they do in future years. They are set up well with the Big East brand, which is a marked improvement from the MVC (though I do like that conference).

So according to Shatel, northeast playground ball is a bygone myth, but his cornfields and baskets nailed to barns are not. Oooooh-kay.

To me he sounds just as culturally arrogant as the people he's griping about.

Hey, at least you guys aren't Butler. Proud of our team, but man these losses are getting tough to deal with every game.

THANK YOU Nova Cat. You get what the intelligent Jays fan get. Shatel is a Mizzou grad, Steve Stippanovich, Big 8, Big 12 fan who now has his Husker football in the Big 10, which he hated, and Mizzou in the SEC, which he hated... he's still in Omaha because he started in the 80s and 90s writing about the Huskers and their 3-championship football run. Pretty easy to write about Touchdown Tommie Frazier.

He's TRIED to be a Creighton writer but has always favored the Nebraska basketball team, which sucks the big one (ok, they were only good in the early to mid 90s when Creighton was in its dark period. Before that NU dodged Creighton for 40 years while their team really stunk and Creighton played (and usually beat) anyone anywhere as an Independent.

Anyway, Shatel is all we got. It's pretty much a Husker sports section. We have a great beat writer, Steve Pivovar, but the rest are all Husker Homers.

I figured there must be some issues there.

I noticed he also instructs us on how Creighton et al "won't light up a cigar after a win and blow smoke in your face", literally a couple of sentences after blowing smoke in our face about how Creighton has won the most games of any BE school in the last few years.

He should probably have his wife or somebody sensible edit his stuff for coherence before he hands it in, because the World-Herald apparently doesn't.

I agree with NovaCats. This schmuck is just using regional stereotypes to create a Midwest vs. East narrative that as a St. Louis native, I despise. A few more things:

1) Since when was Cincinnati a small town? It's a city with a metro population of over 2 million. That's more people than the entire state of Nebraska.

2) If right after you describe an entity as arrogant, you say that it can back it up, it's not arrogance. Cockiness, brashness, excessive confidence, sure, but not arrogance.

3) Butler's squad includes a couple East Coasters, a couple guys from Florida, and a guy from California. And I'm pretty sure all the Indiana residents live in Bloomington or in the greater metro area of Indianapolis, with a population just a little smaller than the state of Nebraska. So much for that small-town, aw-shucks, golly-gee Butler team.

4) Xavier doesn't exactly fit that narrative either. And if he thinks Xavier couldn't be described as "bold and brash," he obviously hasn't heard of Tu Holloway, Mark Lyons, Dante Jackson, Stanley Burrell, et. al. The roster *generally* includes more even-keeled players right now, but there are a couple of characters even on this team.

5) If Xavier wins the conference championship, I should find this guy, light a cigar, and blow the smoke in hs face. I wonder if he could handle that from a aw-shucks, wowzers, "nice" MIdwesterner.

Pivovar: worth reading

Shatel/Chatelain: bird cage liner

That about covers the World-Herald writers. We don't claim either of those two.

It's $4.95 for 24 hour pass... This is a Creighton thing so I would imagine X has the same thing. I haven't done this in a couple years so I have no idea the quality.
