Coach Lavin's quote implying that he doesn't care about winning now but only in Feb. is the dumbest quote to date in a long line of dumb quotes like saying Bucknell was the toughest game all year or something of that nature. Really coach? So November thru January is just a long exhibition period? Hmm…do you think someone should let Lavin know that it's November and January that determine at-large bids? Does he know it still counts in the same season? What a moron.

Lavin is a mentor. He seems more concerned with stroking egos, helping grieving kids, and building character than winning basketball games. He would be a great social worker. I'm sure there's an MSW Lavin can earn at SJU. A real coach who understands New York would say "This is not acceptable…Nova played like crap and we still lost…I apologize to the fans…we are really underachieving and it's very frustrating". We need a straight shooter who knows player development. Lavin has a future at the Men's Warehouse, Car Dealerships, or Social Work, not as a successful basketball coach.

By the way, I apologize for the sour grapes sounding posts earlier…just very, very frustrated with this team to no end. Hopefully Nova, G'Town, Creighton, and Xavier keep up the good work for the conference.

St. John's had a tough schedule to start the conference season. But it eases up a bit with upcoming games again DePaul, Providence, Dartmouth, Seton Hall and Butler. All winnable games.

Why and how did St Johns squeeze in a Dartmouth game during Conference play?

Yeah that`s great and all, but you gotta win the tough game as well.
Not just beat the lesser teams.

Agreed. There is no way this team is sweeping anyone. I think the rest of the schedule goes like this (not in order):

@Nova: Loss
@Creighton: Loss
@Butler: Loss
@Marquette: Loss
Creighton: Loss
Butler: Loss
Marquette: Win
@DePaul: Loss
DePaul: Win
@PC: Loss
PC: Win
@SHU: Loss
SHU: Win
G'Town: Loss
Xavier: Loss
Dartmouth: Win

5-11 in that stretch

14-17 (4-14) overall…may have missed a game or 2 but you get the point

It puts a knot in my stomach. To know if they win those 3 games, they would be ranked and likely a single digit seed in the NCAA. Sickening.

Watched the Butler game this morning. Several comments:

1) The fifth foul on Lubik was a really, really bad call. The elbow was inadvertent, but Lubik received the energy from the minor contact. He was trailing Barlow and went behind him. Should have been a no-call.
2) We basically have a two man team. And they got very tired in the second half. The bench is inconsistent, what there is of it.
3) I was very surprised Fromm was basically MIA in the second half and OT. Yes, Chrab played well, but Fromm brings an element that Chrab doesn't and that is three point shooting.
4) Also surprised that Brown didn't see more floor time, at least to give a second outside threat.
5) I doubt if Georgetown is an NCAA tourney team. No flow in their offense other than let the guards shoot.
6) If Roosevelt Jones was on this team, we might be undefeated.
7) FS 1 needs to get better announcers. I watched an ESPN game earlier in the day with Dan Dakich as the analyst. He was describing the action BEFORE it took place, and provided insight that seems to be lacking with the Fox Sports guys.

Thoroughly enjoyed yesterday's Nova/St John's game. Props to the Johnnies for competing the whole way.

1) I think you are finally seeing what Jordan can do. Similar make-up to the Nova team, in that they are guard-driven. Obekpa is a defensive beast, it's just a matter of getting him to have confidence at the offensive end to establish the low post threat.

2) Hadn't been to MSG since the renovations, the consensus was that they were masterfully done. Tiled/cleaned concourses, large and constantly updated scoreboard, all padded seats and roomier seats - they really addressed the aspects of the building that were showing aging.

3) I was in Section 112, and it was a heavy Nova contingent. My earlier prediction was about 50-50 for Nova and St John's fans, and I think that ratio held up. As for the St John's student section, they were only about 3 rows deep on our side (St John's bench side). Struggling team/student break/apathy or any other insight from the fans?

Again, a great game and Saturday of basketball

Huge home cooking for Butler in yesterday's game through out the entire game. Very impressed we were able to pull off the win with two starters out and all that foul trouble.

Those refs were just horrible. I hear the announcing was pretty bad too, but I didn't have sound where I was watching.
