And this is why I think we have a real shot on Saturday...DePaul had no business beating Butler just as PC had no business beating G'Town. This conference will chew you up and spit you out.

There were 2 odd plays near the end of regulation [EDIT: end of first OT] that caught my eye.
With under 30 seconds left, with DePaul up 4, with the ball and across midcourt (broke the press):
- DePaul's #1 goal in that situation should have been to run out the clock, I think.
---> So, at one point, Billy Garrett had the ball near the sideline, was getting trapped, wanted to get fouled (he's a great foul shooter), nothing was called, so he called timeout. I thought that was a good decision. However, the DePaul guy Marcius threw his hands up in disbelief because he was open under the basket... Marcius in the 6-11 center with limited skills who should not be touching the ball in that situation, especially since he would've been lucky to catch any pass thrown to him more than 15 feet away, plus he was going to shoot when he should've run the clock.. Anyway, Marcius kept his hands up walking to the bench like an idiot.
---> Then, I think coming out of that timeout, Garrett passed to Brandon Young in the corner (now with 22 seconds)... Butler missed fouling him, he had a clear run to the hoop with no Butler guy anywhere on the weak side of the bucket... instead of dribbling to that weak side and running off another say 8+ seconds, he decided to dunk and celebrate, with lead now at 6 pts... that led to:
---> Something like: Dunham hit a 3, Butler stole ball, got 2 more points cutting it to 1, Butler fouled Melvin... Melvin hit 1 shot... Butler missed, Aldridge flipped in the tying bucket...

I might have the details off a little, but that was the basic storyline...
A freshman, Billy Garrett, made the correct decisions.
A senior, Young, and a Purdue upperclassman transfer, Marcius, made poor decisions.
The lesson: With the shot clock off, up by 4+, run out the clock...! Basketball 101...

Ugh...I think you're starting to see the on-court leadership void that occurred when Roosevelt Jones went down last summer. Most people thought Butler was in a rebuilding year anyway, NIT bound!

For those of you interested in Butler attendance numbers...Saturday night might be 7,000 paid...but 3,000 butts in seats (due to the Colts-Pats game).

I'm actually going to mainly watch the Georgetown-Butler game, and only during commercials and timeouts will I flip on the Patriots....

All of us Butler fans are officially in doomsday mode, but at least we didn't have a shot this season anyways.

Unfortunately, in order to get 5 bids, the Big East needed someone to step up. Butler certainly has not, maybe St. John's this Saturday??

St John's would need way more than just tomorrow. If they got tomorrow they would be 10-5. Would need to go 10-6 bare minimum(9-6 in conference- still have a OOC cupcake vs Dartmouth) to even get in the conversation- and even then, would likely need a BET win to get in.

Georgetown, yes, I know they lost to Providence but they would still be in as of right now.
