Yeah but Kansas is not who they are necessarily competing against. Kansas is getting kids from all over the country. And they are landing the top blue chippers. I don't think this is now, or should be ever, CU's recruiting strategy. They should try to be like, Nova, XU, Marq. and Butler. Find kids that are Top 50-150 who fit the Creighton style and develop them over 4 years. Get 2-3 good to very good players every year and stay away from the one and dones. Don't compete with Kansas, compete with Iowa, Iowa St., Kansas St., SLU, Wisconsin, Minn, CO, Okl., etc.

I agree with this. CU is probably not going to get many top 50 players. They need to find top 100 or 150 players who can shoot, pass and play unselfishly and can buy into what the program is about. I think we are already doing that with bringing in Harrell and Gilmore next season, as well as having Hegner who will be a redshirt frosh next year and Milliken who is a JUCO that is redshirting because Gibbs came back for a 6th season.

We certainly will be young next season and will need to find a new identity next season with so many seniors leaving the program, but I'm excited about the future.

Now...back to enjoying this season!

Creighton is always going to be at an extreme disadvantage as it relates to the rest of the league because of access (or lack thereof) of talent in their area. Long-term its why Creighton will almost certainly be a bottom half program in the league. Its a problem that's not going away. Nebraska is always going to be Nebraska.

I don't see it that way at all. As great a program as Creighton is already, they can now offer recruits in their area access to New York, MSG, Chicago, etc, and 1000x more media exposure in the BE (and they're the only BE school within 400 miles). They will also get attention going forward because McDermott will be top NBA pick, and every great game he has in the pros will give the Jays more bona-fides. So, the Creighton program is as good or better than every nearby Big Ten and Big 12 school already, except Kansas. It will only be easier for them going forward.

I disagree. In fact I think Creighton might offer something unique in the Midwestern area that can't be found elsewhere. Want to play high level league hoops in the Midwest at a strong school that is basketball first? Creighton becomes an ideal location. Plus this is basketball not football, so they need like 3 recruits a year not 25.

Did you forget that Xavier, Marquette, Butler, and hell even DePaul are in the Big East? Assuming a player is set on the Big East (and why would you make that assumption? Although its easier for demonstration), its far more likely to live closer to those places. Its always going to be an uphill climb.

I guess we'll find out. We are used to recruiting regionally because Omaha metro isn't big enough to supply talent. We do have some things to sell at Creighton.

If you draw a 500 mile circle around Omaha you hit several major metros. KC, St Louis, Chicago, Milwaukee, Denver, Minneapols-St Paul, OKC. 500 miles is easily driveable for college students and parents.

We have recruiting ties to TX and now to the East Coast with our assistant coaches.

Like others said, we don't have to beat kansas....we need to challenge Minnesota, Wisconsin, Mizzou, KState, CO, Iowa, IA st, Okie St, OK.

17,000 fans in an NBA arena in a basketball centric league shouldn't hurt.

There's also something to be said about being the biggest show in town. All big east schools can tell recruits that they will be big man on campus, but really only Creighton and possibly providence can say that. Omaha is also a big enough city that it isn't lacking in things for a college kid to do.
