Butler has been enormously successful recently making the 3 all-time powerhouses, in this conference, kinda look foolish with their recent body of work so everybody respects them. The problem is you guys made the biggest jump to major of any of the teams (even if you throw MU and Depaul from the CUSA days in there) so you are going to get hated on. I hope you guys continue to have success and find another player in line with Korver and McDermott but right now doubt is going to be cast on your program's future by other fans. (if anythings weird about this post my bad I've had some wine with dinner)

We get it, well said, keep drinking wine it makes you lucid :D . This year's tourney will be big for us, hopefully as big as the move to the Big East and all the national media attention we're getting right now. I think most CU fans are Bullish on the Jays' long-term stock outlook because our AD and President are sooo ready for this return to the national stage (new $11 mil, 43,000-square-foot Championship Center with BCS-type of training facilities opening this summer, Century Link Center crowds at #5 nationally right now, well-salaried coaching staff). With all the insider info I have on Creighton, I'm putting my money on them NOW, before the IPO (March) as I think we're still, as evidenced on this thread, UNDERVALUED Stock :D . And I'm going long on them, this is a buy-and-hold Warren Buffett.

But reality is: creighton has 3 tournament wins in 20 yrs with only 9 appearances.
Villanova, georgetown, marquette, xavier and butler (five of the teams) have 3 tournament wins in a single season multiple times in the past 20 yrs.

Sorry, but I'm not impressed by cbi or nit or cit wins. Those tournaments are cause to be fired for your coach.

I think if I was a Friar Fan, I'd be a lot more concerned with Providence's ability to compete long term than I would Creighton's.

By the way, our facilities are among the best in the conference and are certainly better than Providence's. Our fanbase and attendence are certainly bigger. Our athletic administration is also better. Didn't you guys hire Keno Davis from Drake a few years back? Did you know that all other MVC schools, who played Drake twice yearly, laughed when you did so?!?! If Marquette, Nova or Georgetown fans want to question our ability to compete long term, that's one thing, but for a Providence fan to do it? Physician, heal thyself! You aren't exactly sitting atop the conference standings at the moment and haven't been for quite some time. Maybe Creighton fans seriously wonder whether Providence can compete in this league long term...

As I said before, how about we let this year play out before you throw dirt on our grave.

I sure Grant Gibbs' career is not over,
FriarFan2, another great and relevant thread.

I am confident Creighton will be fine but, as I stated before, I am curious to see if Greg McDermott can succeed without Doug. Why? Because his four years at Iowa State were not very good; thus, he probably had to leave before being fired.

I hope Greg McDermott isn't a Phil Martelli (who experienced great tournament and regular season success because he had a special player in Jameer Nelson). The post Jameer years have either been bad or mediocre for St Joe's.

There are a lot of questions with Creighton- who in the last 6 years has only made the NCAA tourney(you know, the one that matters) 2x (and those 2 times with McDermott). So he goes now, and we're just supposed to think all is going to be hunky dory with you?

Also you didn't go up against a #1 seed last year in the 2nd round. Duke was a #2 seed(and you were a #7 seed). Right now, Bracketology has you as a 6 or 7 seed. Not much difference from last year.

I'm hoping Creighton will fare well- but to say they're on the same level as Georgetown, Marquette, and Villanova (along with Butler and Xavier)- is a complete joke. Creighton has NEVER been to the 2nd weekend of the NCAA tourney. All 5 of those others have been to at least the elite 8 within the last 5-6 years(with 4 of the 5 going to the final 4).

And what in the hell is a message board supposed to be if it's not for some debate? To just come on here to affirm what you think? Give me a break. This board to me is great because there is a very good debate of anything and everything. I might not agree with everything folks say, but it's a debate.

As much as I would like to have a memory of it, Marquette hasn't gone to the Final Four since 2003...which is now beyond 10 years ago soo boooooooooooooo.

Friarfan2 wrote:$1.5 mil would put mcdermot at about 40th nationally. Definitely enough to keep him long term (more than buzz williams makes). Jay wright is the top paid in the conference at $2.4 mil, which makes him about 10th nationall, and oliver purnell is second at $2.1 mill, which makes people scratch their heads. Jtiii is about 1.8 mill.

Buzz makes more than $1.5 million. Bonuses and other deals outside of straight salary (i.e., radio shows, endorsements) aren't always factored in. Buzz is closer to $3 million than he is to $1.5 million. He was widely listed at $2.8 a few years ago.

Don't worry about JAY DAWG. He is a wichita state troll who is trying to put a damper on this board by telling frequent posters to stop posting. He is jealous that creighton fans now have a whole new group of fellow fans to talk hoops with. I already have him on ignore.

Regarding buzz's salary, do a search for the usa today ncaa basketball head coach salary database. They ran it for all tourney teams last year. It includes bonuses and endorsements, and it had buzz below $1.5 mil if I recall correctly.

Bluejay, I do have creighton above providence in my initial post. Don't be so insecure when people are discussing your team. You don't need to try to turn it around on the poster who is making an observation on your team. I know providence is in trouble, but that doesn't mean I can't comment on creighton.

Trust us. Buzz makes more than $1.5 million. That's like saying you can trust reported program expenses/revenue numbers. These are not public employees and MU can put out whatever base number they want. Crean was making $2.2 million 7 years ago. Marquette would easily jump to at least $3.5 to keep Buzz.

Also, that USA Today database you're referring to (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/ ... aab/coach/) says Miami's Jim Larranaga makes $0...along with Bryce Drew and St. Louis' coach.
