You defined it in terms of "postseason appearances," not "NCAA tournament appearances," which I suppose is a worthwhile measure, but it's kinda lowballing it. Hell, when I talk about Xavier, I don't even always mention the tournament appearance achieved by winning four games in four days in the conference tournament back in 2006, because that team had no chance of getting an at-large bid.

CU basketball didn't start with McDermott and Son. The Altman years fall in the past 20 years and were pretty good.

PC has had a bad run but Cooley is a good coach and recruiter; I think his record at Fairfield is impressive; I think he's made a tangible difference on court (if not record wise) since day one. I think the long term outlook is bright

SHU... Willard comes from good coaching lineage (father and pitino) but IMO the jury is still very much out on him as I don't think the impact has been the same as with Cooley. And as others have mentioned, it seems like administrative changes bode well for athletics here

DU... I personally believe Purnell is the right man to turn the program around although admittedly it's been slower than expected

SJU... It seems Lavin has taken a bashing or at least gathered more skeptics recently. All I can say is that the program is in better shape and the future is still filled with potential compared to the Norm Roberts years

BU... let's hold off on any prognostication until Miller shows us what he can do as a HC and bring his guys in. With the school's infrastructure and commitment to basketball, I don't think BU is going to turn into a bottom feeder though.

XU... has Mack really been there 4 years? Seems like he was hired yesterday. Solid support and tradition. Doubt XU ever stays down long.

GT, MU and VU - current year not withstanding for the first two, should all be yearly serious contenders come BET

it's more good on the others than bad on Creighton. Creighton just hasn't had the NCAA success the other BE schools have had in that locks section.
Georgetown, Villanova, Marquette, Butler- all with at least 1 final 4 in the last 6 years
Xavier- 2 elite 8's in the last 10 years

I don't think when we here in the Big East talk postseason- we talk much about the NIT, CIT, or CBI.

Exactly. There's just a lot of questions with Creighton that you just don't have with the other 5(Butler, Georgetown, Villanova, Xavier, and Marquette).

If Doug is as great as we all think he is, one would think that these teams would have risen above the Jays teams from years past. Instead its a steady stream of nice regular seasons and quiet postseasons.

This leads me to question if Doug is over hyped or if dad is in for a rude awakening come next year.

This is actually pretty interesting. What is the outlook for next season when Doug is gone?

Long time lurker, but had to respond to this. Creighton has won 57 games the past two seasons in the MVC and the best seed they could get was an 8/9. You know what that means and indeed that is how it played out: a win in the 1st round and a matchup with a 1 seed in the next round. We drew UNC/Duke in each of the last two years after wins against Alabama and Cincinnati.

It's hard to have any success in the tournament when you're winning nearly 30 games and conference championships and yet you can't do any better than an 8/9. This has always been the case for Creighton in the tournament as a member of the MVC.

Yeah, and this year they're looking currently at a 6 or 7 seed in bracketology. Not that much better.
