There is no doubt Lavin is on the fan's hotseat. No official word from the school though. There have been rumors circulating that Lavin no longer wants to coach here but he can't just leave because then he sacrifices his $1 million paycheck. So in essence he started a bench player and a walk-on vs. G'Town to get fired quicker which would allow him to claim the money. Again, nothing confirmed but someone who claims to be in the know said he heard this. Keep in mind his wife is an actress and would much rather be in LA. Others say there are rumors the practices are literally just layup lines and dunk contests at the end going back to the UCLA days thru current times. That would make sense why they can't shoot or run a play. If we lose to Nova, especially in embarrassing fashion, I think the media starts to question Lavin instead of just the fans. If he really has lost the locker room and wants out but wants to stay so he can collect his paycheck, then shame on him, and I would not be surprised to see some players transfer. It can be a disaster. No coach, no good replacement option, likely transfers, and zero recruits for 2014. This could have major ramifications for the program and keep it down another decade easily. Really reconsidering investing time and money in this program. May just become a casual observer again. Can't keep getting attached to awful teams.

From the NY Daily News:
"Lavin said afterward that he liked the idea of playing Ndiaye because the team needed a dose of his best attributes — unselfishness, toughness and being coachable — and regretted that he had given the junior only seven minutes after he made his only shot and took a charge."

So now the kids are not coachable? Guess those kids at UCLA were not coachable too huh?
And he regrets playing Ndiaye only 7minutes? Well I guess he`ll start again and play 20+ minutes.
Guess he`ll also start Balamou, Gods Gift, blow the red shirt on Jones and start Lipscombs.

Things are about to get real interesting there. See if they have any fight Vs. Villanova. If not then it will implode there.

A rebuilding year in a power conference is tougher than in a mid-major conference. Bob huggins would not have made 14 straight ncaa tournaments out of the big east. John chaney would not have made as many ncaa tournaments out of the big east either.

Not sure about your point here. Butler is for sure in a rebuilding year, loosing Clark, Smith and Jones (injured) from last year's A-10 squad. While we haven't won a game yet, we seem to be holding our own in the Big East while rebuilding. Our bench is entirely untested freshmen this year.

Lavinwood, please stop complaining, making things up, etc. I am frustrated with the season but there are 16 games left in the BE regular season. I am not confident in this team either, but some people come to this board for conversation and information. This post is complete hearsay. I also hope fans of other schools keep an open mind in regards to St. John's fans, and don't judge everything on what they read here. We are not much different than you.

This is a forum. Don't want to read it? Then click the X to leave the site, or click the back button and go read other posts. This is not a place for you to have people post what you want. This is a place of different opinions, perspectives, and rumors. I said they were rumors, and never put them out as fact so you need to relax yourself. Get used to seeing posts you don't like. If things are bad, I'm not going to sugarcoat them. I bet most people in the forum would agree with me in that statement. They see how bad this program is now too. Lavin is not a coach…he's a used car salesman just as UCLA fans kept saying after 7 years which is a big sample size to judge him. You tell me to stop complaining? Using that word implies I'm whining about things that aren't even that bad. Except they ARE that bad. Why am I supposed to be happy or content with my team facing elimination from the tournament in early January against Nova? Rooting for a team that has 1 tournament appearance and 1 ranking in 10 years and you tell me to stop complaining? Go on Redmen.com aka the biggest homers and blind optimists there are. Just so you know, blind optimists are just as bad as pessimists. Did you really not expect any personal opinion or rumors to be posted in a forum? It's like this is your first rodeo in one. If you don't like it then this isn't the place for you.

Before you kick Lavin out the door, let me repeat Ronald Reagan's line: "Are you better off today than you were 4 years ago (before latin got here)?"

Lavinwood, have you thought about changing your name ; ) Seriously though, Lavin is not on the hot seat by any stretch of the imagination at this point. Also, he is not going anywhere anytime soon, unless he leaves on his own or something unexpected happens (i.e. scandal). I am not saying that I support him or want him gone, just telling it like it is.

Ok. Show me a link where you read these rumors. You are creating this as you go along. "There have been rumors circulating that Lavin no longer wants to coach here but he can't just leave because then he sacrifices his $1 million paycheck." and "Others say there are rumors the practices are literally just layup lines and dunk contests at the end going back to the UCLA days thru current times." It is actual comical. Please send a link where you read these rumors. I am a big St. John's fan and read every local paper, follow guys on twitter (who are professionals), etc. and haven't read anything close to that.

Not wanting to pick sides but...This isn't the first time I've heard this. I grew up in the West Coast and followed UCLA under Lavin. The guy was not well respected there then and still isn't. If you want sources here is one.

http://www.bruinsnation.com/2011/2/4/19 ... teve-lavin

scroll down to the comments you can read some of the things there. One guy back from 2011 basically said the exact same thing.

-------------------------------------------------------------
Lavin Practice = Lay-Up Lines
Lavin was infamous for his joke of a practice. According to a friend on the team in the late 90’s (you may know him as a “lucky charm”), the team would regularly spend the whole time doing lay-ups and finish the practice with a dunk contest.

No preparation, no defense, no strategy. Lay-ups.

The funniest part was that Moose still couldn’t make a lay-up to save his life!

I cannot express how important winning tomorrow is for me. As a student during his reign of terror, Lavin personally detracted from my college experience.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

That's why I still refer to him as a Used-Car salesman. It carried over from 10 years ago.

If St. Johns is lucky Lavin will resign and not have to finish his 5 year contract. He is on year 4 now right? Watch the kids during the game, it seems like they don't really respect him very much when he calls the guys together.

Also Lavinwood, you should probably change your name, that "Lavinwood" section is a joke seeing who it's named after.

He clearly has never read SJ or UCLA forums to call me crazy for saying that. All I did was mention rumors from other people on SJ boards many of whom have direct connections and know news well before it makes the media. Not saying it's true, but all indications are that Lavin runs unorganized practices, tells them to play "free form" aka streetball which is EXACTLY how we've looked. Yes he's on year 4. And the players don't respect him…you will routinely see players with mean mugs on their faces when he pulls them out, and Harrison had his back to Lavin on purpose during a timeout in a game last year. This is just a collection of athletes ranked high as recruits. I see Nova and I see a total team effort. I see any player on the floor with the ability to make a 3. I see high to low passes…I see kick outs. After wins they are like kids on a playground jumping all over each other laughing. I don't see that with SJ. We are basically Harrison and Jordan then everyone else at least on offense. If Harrison is shut down we lose big. Jordan is the only player I'm hopeful is talented enough to be a good PG regardless of Lavin's poor coaching. But I'm not even sure he stays. His mother is in Philly very ill and he has already been disciplined for issues in the classroom. Lavin also barely plays the kid who just dropped 17 its recently. If I were the #3 PG in the nation and my coach kept me warming the bench and my mother was very sick at home, I'd transfer for sure. He'd be handed the keys at Temple.

I get the feeling too that we are stuck with Lavin for a long time. But every year he's coach is another year we won't be ranked or make the tourney. The program was dead for so long then he came in and spiced us up getting us in the headlines and relevancy. Now it appears we are going back to being a dead program. I just wish we could keep Lavin as an assistant whose purpose is to recruit and sell the program to players and families. He would be amazing in that role. Then bring in a real head coach who makes decent players into stars. Now that's a recipe for sustained success and deep runs. SJ has 1 more game to prove they may still have a chance against Nova. Lose that and they lose my interest for the rest of the season. I will still follow the conference but not our program.

If your read the Bruinnation.com artivle and the Huffinton post article by Al Sapiro
"Dear St. John`s, enjoy Steve Lavin, Love UCLA" from April 1, 2010

It`s scary reading what went on then and what`s going on now at SJU.

A lot of people on the SJU boards are saying that something is definitely going on behind the scenes.
That`s why I`m saying I want to see what happens Saturday vs nova.

Lets see, they played with #2 Syracuse the whole game, now they get blown out @ G-Town and vs. Nova in back to back games???
Nah I`m not buying that. To me Saturday is huge.

What kills me is he`s saying that these kids aren`t coachable, didn`t he hand choose them?
He`s the coach, he`s getting paid to motivate them to play. Just wow.
