At first I thought this was odd as well. While I am a fan of a new team (Xavier) I would have no problem giving precedence to elder teams, by giving them the first game at home. Then I came up with a plausible reason why this was done. Lining up the whole conference to play one the same day could be a nightmare with the shared arenas. X and Butler own their arenas and I believe that Crieghton and Providence are the primary tenants of thier arenas. So I think the home teams where probably based on who had availability to host

Two exciting overtime games and a very impressive Creighton team. Just a couple of addtional thoughts here. Any reaction to the two female announcers for the Seton Hall/Providence game? I thought they were enthusiastic and did a nice job. Also to be fair, not sure if it was by plan or by accident but I thought it was nice the three new teams got to open league play at home. I certainly echo the sentiment of using this same format next season on New Year's Eve.
Happy New Year to all of my new Big East friends!!

Seton Hall fans were not impressed with the announcers for our game. The only thing worse was the officiating.

Maybe just trying to wean them in instead of having the on the road in hostile new league arenas? Lol? Where are all of the newbies playing next? I know Creighton travels to New Jersey to face my beloved Pirates on Saturday.

Butler plays at Xavier Saturday afternoon at 2. X gets a third straight home game against Marquette on Thursday the 9th.
Our thanks to the benevolent schedule maker :)

Wish we had such a schedule maker! We never seem to luck out to much in that respect. I think our scheduling "gods" have horns, a sick sense of humor and live in a rather warm climate. Lol!

I assumed it was because they knew the crowds would look great on TV. Logically you'd expect the new teams' fans to be more excited.

After 1 game of 18, I don't know much. I think CU will certainly be tough in their bldg with the 18k rocking it. But they have a couple losses when the shots wouldn't go down. VU looked pretty good against Butler, but a bounce or two determined the game. This season is going to be a grind with lots of good teams, just the way it was supposed to be. There won't be that many "upsets" to me, because I think anybody can beat anybody on a given night. That's why they play the games.

Many of the C7 play in pro arenas and there might also have been conflicts with other events. SHU last year had to do a last minute date change with a home game because the Rolling Stones scheduled a last minute concert at the Rock. This year is really my first time watching games at Xu, Creighton and Butler and they all look like great places to play.

AAC attendance from their newcomers:

Louisville at UCF - 7,094
Memphis at USF - 4,063
UCONN at Houston - 4,035 (looked more like 1-2K on TV)
