Xavier -5.5
G'town -14
Prov -5.5
Nova -3.5
Creighton -9

Surprised a bit by the last 2. Would have figured it would be Nova by maybe 1-1.5 and CU by maybe 6. The others seem about right.

what do they say home court is worth? I know in football it's about 3 points. So assuming the same- Nova to be favored by 3.5 means that Vegas thinks they're about 6.5 points better than Butler. Sounds about right. Creighton by 9 would mean Vegas thinks they're about 6 points better than Marquette- maybe a bit much.

I don't know about Xavier being 5.5 over St John's. Don't think Xavier is necessarily 2.5 points better than St John's right now.....

The value of home court isn't necessarily the same for all teams and even all games for the same team. For Creighton, I would argue home court is typically worth more than 3 points, probably closer to 5 or 6, and maybe even more for this game considering the hype. It sold out in minutes and Jays fans have had this circled since the schedule came out.

I don't think Vegas takes into account your views on Creightin's home ourt.

The OP is right. You typically see about 3 points for the home team on the Vegas line.

I think the point of the post was that basketball isn't like football. I thought I had read somewhere that the Vegas oddsmakers don't have a "standard" amount that they tend to value home court in basketball, like they tend to do for football because basketball is just so different and the impact of home court can vary much more. I could be totally wrong, but I swear I read that somewhere.

See http://www.boydsbets.com/college-basketball-home-court-advantage/ for example. The example of Duke vs. North Dakota is a good one -- while home field is a pretty "standard" thing in football, it's hard to see it as standard in basketball.

Sagarin has home court being 3.75 points right now...

Right now-
Marquette 83.81
Creighton 87.19+3.75=90.94

90.94-83.81=7.13 points Maybe Vegas giving Creighton a smidge more home court advantage....
