Oh, and that Belmont game- Belmont isn't a bad loss by any stretch. They are a perennial NCAA team and will be a top 100 game. The UAB loss for UNC is worse than that.

Makes sense and not impossible I'd just be pretty surprised.

Here's my thinking:

Lose a game first week. Drop 8 spots. 18
Win a game the next week. Pick up a spot maybe by default. 17
Lose @ Cuse. Lose 2-3 spots. 19/20

Look at a team that lost last week, Florida lost at uconn and dropped 4 spots. A cuse loss should have a little less impact than uconn loss.

Vcu right now is 31 with hardly anything impressive win wise and two losses to unranked teams. Nova shouldn't be anywhere near them.

It comes down to voting and it's impossible to know for sure. One thing I'm almost positive about is they'll be a top 25 team in terms of computer ranking easily as long as they don't get blown out both games.

You have to remember in the coaches as well- they're in 14th not 10th. So drop that 8 spots you say(which sounds realistic)- that's 22nd. a 2nd loss and it's right at that 25/26 range.

True. The coach poll is not as important but definitely has relevance and I'd be more concerned about losing a spot there. They have unranked Nova. Even AP has underrated them a bit.

Weekly update (skipped last week due to finals)

Well it's pretty disappointing that St. John's or Georgetown didn't win because we lost out on two opportunities to be ranked. Here are the updated standings. I now take conference schedule into consideration. Looks like just Nova will be ranked before then.

Butler- unranked/ #51 (kenpom)/ #32 (RPI): win tomorrow as well as the BE opener vs. Nova (#8) and I'm confident they'll be ranked. Only two losses (Ok State (#5) and LSU on neutral courts).
Creighton- #37 (AP)/ #16 (kenpom)/ #60 (RPI): funny how Creighton won all it's game since the two losses, yet is a couple places lower in the rankings. Maybe voters submitted ballots early on Sunday before that loss? Win tomorrow and BE opener vs. Marquette and it can only help. Hard to say how long it would take, but definitely seems doable soon.
DePaul- unranked/ #141 (kenpom)/ #125 (RPI): have a chance for a good win tonight. DePaul would need to go on a serious run in BE play to get ranked.
Georgetown- unranked/ #32 (kenpom)/ #49 (RPI): need to win tomorrow and then go on a run (maybe 5 games) in BE play.
Marquette- unranked/ #44 (kenpom)/ #100 (RPI): once again need to win tomorrow. In a similar but worse place than Georgetown. Would need to go on a run in BE play to really turn heads after a very disappointing non-conference schedule.
Providence- unranked/ #71 (kenpom)/ #77 (RPI): have a big game @UMass (#23) tomorrow, and then @Nova (#8) second game of BE play. Considering they only have two losses (Neutral games vs. Maryland and Kentucky), I think they'll be ranked if they win the next three.
Seton Hall- unranked/ #133 (kenpom)/ #150 (RPI): see: DePaul. Although a win tonight would be less impressive.
St. John's- unranked/ #56 (kenpom)/ #44 (RPI): win tomorrow as well as the first 3 BE games (@Xavier, @Georgetown, vs. Nova (#8)) and they should be ranked. Two of their three losses during non-conference play were to top five teams.
Villanova- #8 (AP)/ #5 (kenpom)/ #6 (RPI): if Nova can win tomorrow @Cuse (#2), it will be huge not just for Nova but the entire conference. That win should get Nova a top 2 or 3 ranking heading into BE play, which means better opportunities for other BE teams if they knock them off. Lose and they'll drop a few places.
Xavier- unranked/ #45 (kenpom)/ #56 (RPI): chance for a good win vs. Wake Forest tomorrow. I think if they win the first four games of BE play (vs. SJU/Butler/Marquette, @Creighton), it would be hard not seeing them ranked.

My early prediction is by the end of BE play, two BE teams will be ranked and four teams will go to the tournament.

So Creighton is 26th in the Coaches poll with 29 votes but 35th in the AP poll with 5 votes. Pretty big discrepancy, unfortunately, most people use the AP poll. Villanova at 11 (AP) and 14 (coaches).

I think one thing to kind of point out, if this was the old Big East, we'd be going into conference play kind of down...

right now using coaches
#2 Syracuse
#10 Louisville
#14 Villanova
#15 UConn
#27 Pittsburgh
only 5 teams getting votes in the coaches poll this week(looks same in AP)
