You're sure? Based on what?

Well "I'm sure" wasn't the best phrase to use, but I still think they have a better chance than most BE teams. I'd give them a 75% chance. Northern Iowa is a decent team this year.

VCU has been bad. Worse than the underachieving Big East teams for sure. And UNI was 4-5 heading into the game so you can't spin this as a good loss.

Not really. They're 31 in the AP, 33 in coach's, 33 in kenpom, 44 in RPI.

Sure, those will drop after this loss but they'll still be in better shape than most BE teams. In the voting for example they're ahead of EVERYONE but Nova.

They were ranked #10…they are probably going to the 50's after this loss. That's bad.

I'm not denying they've been bad relative to their expectations. I'm saying they're still better, or at the least on par, with the majority of BE teams even after this loss.

The only reason they are in the polls at all is because they were WAY overrated to start the season.

It doesn't matter where VCU is ranked in the polls at the moment. They've been running a successful program for decades and have peaked in the past decade. They are a proven, reliable basketball program, perfectly situated in the East Coast footprint. Their long term success, location, investment in the program, and large student body make them an ideal expansion candidate.

Just not sure if they can keep up recruiting wise. They also have a bad academic reputation from what I've heard.

OYE!!! Can we please give the expansion talks a rest until after the season. We are not expanding in 2014. Let's see what happens between now and then before predicting expansion teams? Please...

That's your opinion. I think they expand in the summer or the following summer. This thread was made to help limit expansion talk to one thread so people like you can easily avoid it on the rest of the forum.

Edit: and yes I know guys that polls don't mean much, which is why I also listed the impressive kenpom and rpi ratings. Once again, better than most BE teams.

VCU has been a big disappointment. Part of the reason is that they've been so overhyped on this board. Like someone mentioned, they've benefitted from a high preseason ranking, as well as a ridiculously high early ranking for Virginia. Their loss vs Florida State was a disaster, 25+ point blowout most of the game and it was worse than any BE loss this year. No way are they or their resume better than half the Big East. They're better than DePaul, Seton Hall (probably?), and that's it. Hopefully they can rebound and win at a bad Virginia Tech and at Boston College... otherwise the effin ACC will claim 2 more "good wins" by beating a very average team. Jheesh...
