On a lighter note. Rutgers lost by 1 to FDU. RU was an 18.5 pt favorite at home. After getting their first road win of the year FDU is now 2-6.

is it me, or is Rutgers looking more and more like a dumpster fire? basketball never was good- and their football seems like it's regressing fast.... for the AAC- that's the one loss that I think is addition by subtraction.

That`s all you say. Guess you`re happy with the 0pnts in first 6 and a half minutes of the game, and how bad they`re playing.

Truthfully I was expecting alot more.

I know that for you easterners, the ACC is the prime enemy. For those of us in the midwest (Creighton, Marquette, DePaul and Xavier), how we fair against Big 10 teams may be more important, especially in terms of local bragging rights. The fact that the dumpster fire that is Rutgers is Big 10 bound makes me feel all warm inside.

There seems to be a strange rift within SJ fans. One group is all in with Lavin and they are almost like blind supporters of politicians. They will tell you how bad we were before Lavin came and how we couldn't recruit anyone. They will tell you to "just wait", then wait a little longer. Oh, just wait...this season I swear we will be good! Oh, we couldn't handle Longwood, Bucknell, or Monmouth? That's ok! Hey, Duke and UNC struggled! So we will be fine. Nothing is wrong, I can't hear you right now lalalalalala!

Then there are the realist SJ fans who admit that Lavin does a great job bringing visibility to the program as well as recruiting, but not much else. I fall into this group. Lavin seems like a great guy personally and even follows me on Instagram which made me feel pretty cool not going to lie. I just don't think he can coach. Our players look absolutely lost and they are veterans (most of them). Ironically, the few people with an idea i.e. Jordan, Sanchez, etc. are the ones who have had the least contact with Lavin. It just seems like there is no plan. We are shooting about 17% from 3 so far through 5 games and he still allows our players to chuck and pray. Why? I still see Steve Lavin the ESPN commentator with the slicked back hair and a banging wife, not a good basketball coach.

For future reference, does Lavin bring his wife on road trips?

The bashing of Lavin really has no basis at this point. Let's do this again-

Year 1 : SJU tied for third in BE. NCAA bid, number 3 recruiting class, final AP rank of 18, beat six top twenty teams, attendance rises 30%. Keep in mind this done with team that made one NIT appearance and one CBI appearance and lost both openers. Dwight Hardy first team all big east and all American honorable mention. Justin Burrell big east sixth man award.

Year 2: did not coach and did not attend practices. Moe Harkless drafted 15th and is first Big East Rookie of the year since the early 1980's.

Year 3: with no upper class men, STJ makes NIT and wins first round game. Winning season overall. JaKaar Sampson Big East Rookie of the year. This is lavins first year with this group.

If he couldn't coach, year one would never have happened. If you say it was due to Dunlap, he was the coach in year two. So before you start calling for Lavin's head and claiming he can't coach, etc., his record thus far does not support the argument. This team is not playing to its potential, but we are five games in. We have won every game we are supposed to and lost to a very good Wisconsin team that sits at #10. I am critical of this team, I've been a season tix holder for years ans want to see a good team. But to go off on Lavin right now is a little silly.

mentally it's tough to get up for all the cupcakes. While Penn St/Ole Miss/Ga Tech aren't world beaters, they are a HUGE step up from Monmouth/Longwood. This weekend will get a much better indication of where St John's is....

Yeah, year one they kicked ass. I was saying wow if he could do that with Norms kids, imagine what he`ll do with 4 and 5 star kids.

Year 2: They were the youngest team in the nation, and had no depth so I gave them a pass.
Year 3: They still were one of the nations youngest teams and so I still didn`t expect much.

But this year, they got the most talented team (supposedly) in the B.E. So I`ll be damned if I`m gonna shut my mouth again, it`s not gonna happen. Yeah you can blame the kids all you want, but those kids are Lavins recruits and no one elses.

So everything is on lavin, the honeymoon period is over.
