Wasn't Xavier's choice. Part of the Battle for Atlantis. Luckily since it's their first year in the transition to D1 the game doesn't count for RPI purposes.

Actually I think it does. It's in the real time rpi I know. Saw something from last year and they were saying that Abilene will count towards the RPI this year.

The Xavier coaching staff was informed by the NCAA that it will not count. I can't speak for what independent numbers guys decide to do though.

PC digs themselves into another hole, down I believe 18 or 19 midway through 2nd half then comes roaring back and should have cut it 1 on a three pointer by Cotton with about 20 seconds left only to get robbed as they ruled it a two.( his toe was on the international three line, according to announcers). Well outside the college three lime from what I saw. Unbelievable. Maryland made their FTs and that did it. Oh well, Friars had a good showing and will need to learn how to play better, no excuse for three bad starts, it caught up to then.

yup. Don't know if anyone could have asked for a better start for Providence than they've had. If they can split with Kentucky and UMass, and win the other 4 games- go into conference season 11-2- that would be huge for them.

It's amazing- they've played 7 games in 17 days now, and now they play 6 games in 35 days. It's such a front loaded schedule now in days.

Didn't see the game, but by the looks of the looks of the box score, the Friars' bench was pretty worthless.

Jahii Carson and Arizona State are pretty underrated IMO. Would've been a very good win for Marquette come March.

Not to pat myself on the back when I'm right, but I've said it numerous times on the board for months. And that is the Big East will be a down year this year with virtually everyone except Creighton being better next year and beyond. Nothing against Creigton but every other team brings back or brings in better players and of course any team will be down losing DM. If we can get 2 of (SJU, providence, Xavier) in the NCAA to bring it to 5 that will success in my eyes. Xavier is playing well and I hope SJU can learn real quick to play as a team as well as Providence getting their freshman back on the court

FWIW, ASU was predicted in most preseason publications to finish 6th in the Pac 12, and either the last Pac 12 school in or out of the NCAA. Me thinks the Pac 12 is pretty good this year if ASU is the 6th best.

So far the Big East has shaped out kind of like I expected (and feared). Everyone is solid. Nobody is really good. While this is awesome for competition and games in conference, it's going to hurt the conference perception since teams are going to be beating up on each other every week. With the fact that nobody is going to run through conference games (or really get any marquee conference wins) these OOC games become even more important on the tournament resume. Unfortunately, to this point most Big East teams haven't really capitalized. Not having bad losses is great and we've done a good job of avoiding those for the most part, but eventually you actually have to win some big games (especially the nationally televised ones) to help the conference perception and tourney resume.

It's still early and there is still some time to get some of those big wins for the conference but the direction things are going I'd be kind of shocked if we got more than 4 bids.
