It's not a weekly power ranking in the sense that we're ranking a team on the results of that week only. We're ranking the entire conference once weekly just as the AP poll does.

Fair enough. I wonder if there should be much difference b/n the two in the 3rd week of the season though. Preseason bias skews the whole process right?

No offense but I think you are delusional. SHU was picked to be among the bottom 3 teams in our conference. You are acting as if at 4-2 you should be #3 in the conference. You guys have some decent pieces, but your future lives and dies with IW IMO. If IW is the real deal then it's a huge get. If he's not as advertised then Willard will likely not get another recruit like him.

It certainly does, but it should. We don't have enough data to completely disregard our preseason thoughts. As we see teams play more and more and continue to see results our preseason expectations will have less and less impact on the ratings. Otherwise Marquette would probably have to be 9th or 10th, but I certainly don't believe they are really the 9th or 10th best team. I think the early season is a fluke for them and their offense will pick up.

Look cry baby, check the poll I put out in the other thread before you start calling people delusional. I had SHU 7th, wow stop the presses!

The truth is, with the exception of DePaul, we have no idea where we will all end up. Wait until SJ plays Cuse. Wait until PC plays Kentucky and UMass. I hope SHU is relevant this year, it only helps everyone, but I think having high expectations for them this year is setting yourself up for disappointment. You should go in expecting nothing and be pleasantly surprised with any big time wins.

College fb always causes controversy (loses credibility) with this approach. Teams have been denied a chance at a championship b/c of this approach. Preseason polls are fun, but once the season starts they suck and every poll afterwards sucks for a good amount of time too. No one saw Gibbs play for two years when they ranked SHU in the preseason so how relevant were those predictions? But I get it. :D

Hall- lets just lay low for now. its not like these ranking mean anything- they're just for fun. People who aren't familiar with the program expect SHU to suck this year because all they see are the numbers from last year- 15-18 (3-15). They may also see that we lost our 2nd leading scorer and all we added was a decent freshman in sina, a transfer pg who only got garbage time minutes at texas, and a couple other guys they haven't heard of.

What they don't see is that last year we lost so many guys to injury that we were playing games with just 7 dressed scholarship players and the guys we did have were playing hurt ( ex: Mobley was shooting 40% from 3pt range with a separated shoulder).

So the low pre-season ranking is understandable- people who don't know what we went through last year think they suck, and people who do know just think we're a giant unknown- which is true. And to be honest, the team hasn't done enough yet this year to warrant improving that ranking. While this past week was better- playing very well against OU (but not getting the result) and beating VT), they still have an embarrassing loss and have been underwhelming in their wins. While I think this team will be a lot better than anyone's giving them credit for, they aren't there yet.

I agree, Mobley's not really back yet either. We MAY be a year away but I still plan to enjoy the ride w/this year's squad :D
