Knee jerk reactions on your team

Postby Vill » Fri Nov 22, 2013 10:59 am

It seems like many fans have changed their tune already on what they expect from their team this season. Thought I would start a thread to get the pulse of everyone so far.

For your team, do you now think you will finish higher or lower than where you did a couple of weeks ago?

Villanova- I thought we'd finish third and will upgrade that to 2nd now.

Still a bit lost on SJ. We looked like a definite top 25 team defensively in the 2nd half vs. Bucknell with 13 blocks and no open shots with our zone. Our offense is the biggest concern. Shooting wise it's scary bad. That's why we have to get in the paint and draw those fouls. If you told me we would get in the paint much more then I still think we are a top 4 Big East team. If you told me we would keep taking jumpers then I might say we fall as low as 7th.

Very encouraged by what I've seen from Providence. Picked them for 5th, but now I'm thinking they might be even better than that.

Its not really my team, its the other teams. The back half of the conference just isnt particularly good, so it presents an opportunity to finish in a number of places.

for Xavier it was all about how well our new guys would come in and play and so far they have been very encouraging. We actually have pieces around Semaj that can score consistently. Stainbrook and Myles Davis are the real deal, Randolph has been fantastic for a freshman PG, and the improvement I have seen from Dee Davis, Philmore, Reynolds and Farr has been great. I was very conservative and thought we would finish 6th. I've gotta say that I think we can finish higher now, especially given the uncertainty about several of the teams picked above us.

Friars really seem to be coming together. If Kris Dunn can make it through the rest of the year, I think they'll end up top 5 in the conference. I'd say I am slightly more optimistic now than before. PC's size and length is really impressive. They can trot out a lineup featuring:

Kris Dunn - PG - 6-3
Josh Fortune - SG - 6-5
LaDontae Henton - SF - 6-6
Kadeem Batts - PF - 6-9
Carson Desrosiers - C - 7-0

That frontcourt going to be hard for a lot of teams in conference to match up with IMO, then you add in Cotton as the premier scoring guard in the conference and you have a real threat. The big worry is turnovers for this team - PC has no backup PG so if Dunn can't go, teams like Nova, Marquette, etc. could eat them alive with ball pressure.

I thought X would finish in the top three, and nothing has happened to change my thinking on this. Ask me again after they have a couple of games at the Battle4Atlantis tournament next week.
Xavier will surprise. Never count them out of the Dance.

I agree that Dunn is critical. I was kind do impressed with Cotton when I saw him playing the point, leading that they can get by for short stretches without Dunn.

I thought that X would finish in the bottom 4 and they have completely changed my thinking to the point that I can't mount a single argument to disagree with you.
