What rumors? And having Baron Davis talk with recruits and meet them is allowed. How does that break a rule? It's much slimier to have a coach demand a position at a school if they want his recruit. SHU already swung and missed with Aquille Carr and now they get another shady kid. Hope it works out, but this is make or break for Willard. He got desperate and offered a coaching spot to his coach just to get him. Lavin must have really embarrassed the coach when he basically told him to go kick rocks when he asked for a coaching spot if we wanted Whitehead. One problem we will not have is recruiting top 50 talent with Lavin here. Again, not a good coach, but at some point we will get the right combo of recruits that will click. When you keep pulling top 50 kids, some of them are bound to be stars.

Reportedly Louisville and Syracuse dropped out of his recruitment because of the demand to hire his coach as well.

Willard did what he had to in order to secure the most important recruit in his tenure. Without showing much progress on the court the last few years he needed to make a recruiting splash or be left behind in this highly competitive league. Wen the pressure is on to succeed many coaches will do whatever it takes, morals be damned.
And to the SHU fan I would hope that you would see that the timing of bringing in the coach of said prized recruit, although perfectly legal, borders on slimy desperation. Will the next recruit's Aunt be brought in to the Admin area "because she was a really good at typing" and we needed someone who could type fast."???

The question is which HS coach will Willard hire next year because he wants another elite player?

The real question is why does a SJU fan give a crap about who SHU recruits? I know I could care less who Lavs signs next year, good luck.

lol I really don`t care. I just find it sad that SHU has to hire an elite players coach to get him.
Think coach K, Izzo, Calipari, Pitino would? They`d laugh and tell the recruit to gtf outta here.
Lavin would never roll like that either.

But I understand SHU fans, win at all cost right? As long as it`s legal.

With that being said, I'm glad SHU ended up with him. I'd rather him stay in the Big East. You guys need him more than us anyway especially with us rumored to be in great standing with 2 top 10 players for 2015. Also so we can smack him around a bit :D

You said you had little doubt that his coach would be paying him. Newsflash...that's illegal. And it isn't about the coach- in the end, the kid has the final say in what school he wants to commit too- regardless of what his coach wants. If Whitehead desperately and only wanted to play for St. John's, as you suggest, then he'd have told his coach to get lost and he'd have signed with St. John's. Now, maybe Whitehead is really tight with his coach and that having him come along was something that was really important to him. Well, lucky Kevin Willard- 3 members of his staff left over the summer to take higher positions at different schools. So far, he's only replaced 2 of them. It left him in a spot to offer Tiny Morton the position if it was some important to Isaiah. Lavin, on the other hand, had a full staff and would have had to fire someone in order to make room to hire Tiny Morton. Had Willard done that- I agree, it's a slimy move, but the way things went- Willard had the means to grant Whitehead's request and speculation is that he did so.

And yeah, he's a great get, especially with you guys rumored to be in great standing with these 2 2015 guys. Oh, BTW, it seems that both of them have The Hall in their top 5's as well : ) As far as smacking him around a bit- good luck. Remind me, how many times have the Johnnies won at the Rock? Heck, when's the last time they won @ Seton Hall period? Cheers :D

Are you really propping Calipari up as the model for recruiting? Search "World Wide Wes" and his connections to Calipari and high profile recruits. Actually that is why I commented that Johnnies fans should accept that it was how it is in college hoops. SHU is not alone in doing questionable, albeit legal, things to secure a recruit.

"Hall" you and I have been getting along so well. Why did you take my comments as derogatory towards SHU? I thought I was being quite fair and impartial.

Come on DamnIt, calling my school's biggest recruit in the last 10+ years "borderline slimy & disgusting" is about as derogatory as it gets. And that's for something that is hiding from no one & in plain sight. The school administration & most of the industry guys are more than fine with it and you know this. Yet you're using the same lines as dudes who don't know the difference b/n "street agents" and high school coaches. Posters who don't know that SHU needed to upgrade it coaching staff & would be happy as hell if Tiny Morton came on board even w/out IW. Posters who act like SJU didn't just dump an assistant coach (former NYC high school coach too) for not bringing in city recruits. Posters who are mad that they haven't turned a top 5 recruiting class three years ago into one week in the rankings.
