Another Hare-Brained Marketing Idea - Court Decal Edition...

Ok, time to once again get Val Ackerman on the line...

Couple of ideas for our respective courts:
1. Add decals that say "[State or City or Region]'s Big East Team", just to the upper right of midcourt.
For PC: "New England's Big East Team".
For DePaul: " Chicago's Big East Team".
For Xavier: "Ohio's Big East Team".
For St John's: "New York's Big East Team".
For Seton Hall: "New Jersey's Big East Team".
For Villanova: "Philadelphia's Big East Team"... or Pennsylvania if better idea.
For Butler: "Indiana's Big East Team".
For Marquette: "Wisconsin's Big East Team"... or Milwaukee if better idea.
For Creighton: "Nebraska's Big East Team"... or Omaha's if better idea.
For Georgetown: "America's Big East Team"... or Washington's if better idea.

2. Since a lot our conference's image is our coaches, historically and currently, put decals of head-to-head matchups of our teams on the court. Nothing too big, but just caricature images... so on New Years Eve, just opposite of midcourt from the decals in item #1 above, it would show Cooley's caricature image with "Cooley" below it and "Providence" below that, next to a caricature of Willard with his name below and "Seton Hall" below that. There can be a small "vs" centered between the two heads. The heads would be smiling of course and would be angled around 30-degrees towards each other in kind of a mirrored format. Again, this would be to promote the coaches as the faces of their programs, and help with recognizability.

Ok, the decals must be non-slip. Also, I'm recovering from a cold and just took some medicine and these ideas might be the result of serious delirium setting in.

Interesting ideas but I've always been a "less is more" kind of guy when it comes to floor decals.

Pretty sure all the Big East teams, not just Georgetown, are America's favorites, actually Georgetown is prolly the only team America has rooted against since the 1980s.

Providence lost Vincent Council for half the season last year thanks to a stupid court decal. I'll pass.

I think he put that because Georgetown doesn't have a state, but they are in America's capital city.

I think it's an interesting idea for sure. I was saying that SJ should be utilizing the NYC skyline with its logos or jerseys more, and once we got Under Armour they did exactly that. Now SJ fans are fighting to be able to buy anything SJ with the cool skyline look. Amazing what a little marketing can do.

I think this would be a cool idea in some schools, but in places like SJ, we already have a motto "New York's Team". It's already obvious and I feel like adding another decal that says "New York's Big East Team" may be a bit much. But I would be interested in seeing a sketch…still a cool idea. IMO this would help more with Creighton, Marquette, Butler, etc. because most fans don't know off the top of their heads where these teams are located since they are outside the biggest market areas.

In terms of the caricature thing, the ACC did something similar. On ESPN's Facebook page, they had all the ACC coaches draw their team's mascot and there was a picture with each coach holding their drawing. It's a subtle and cool way to make the connection for fans who may not know, and reinforce the connections for fans who already know. I think a great way to really spread the influence of the Big East is to load up on decals and apparel i.e. hats, sweatshirts, t-shirts, shorts, etc. from your school. My car is loaded with SJ logos, I have tons of apparel I wear a lot, and I post about it on Facebook a lot. I really try to do my part. People really notice the small things. I notice that on Facebook and Instagram a lot of the content is related to college football. I think we can do a much better job talking about Big East basketball on these sites.

Also, get cool t-shirts that lots of people will want to buy. One off the top of my head that I see everywhere are the "Nova Nation" t-shirts. They are really cool, eye-catching and you know what you're looking at when you see it. It would be cool to see some artists or designers making more fan-related shirts. Think of the guy from The 7 Line Darren Meenan. He's a diehard Mets fan that makes his own fan t-shirts including catch-phrases, players, and features other things related to the team. They sell like hotcakes and he makes over $500k a yr doing it now! Not saying a college team's apparel would be as popular as a major market MLB team, but the more exposure the better. Start more forums too especially the new members of the conference if you guys don't have a main one already.

As far St. John's goes, they already use the "We Are New York's Team" slogan which works, even if not as a court decal (Syracuse prefers the tag "New York's College Team").

It's so strange seeing the "New York's College Team" signs in Yankee Stadium and on NYC cabs. You would never know Syracuse is 4 hours and 250 miles away. You can fly there from Cuse. Syracuse is much closer to the Canadian border than NYC. Can't get much less New York than Cuse.
