Totally agree. Arkansas hasn't been Arkansas since Nolan Richardson left.

I think it's good and helps draw interest. Hopefully the Big East gets in on more of these (Georgetown played KU or Mizzou in Kansas City a few years back).

Totally agree. Not just the individual games- but also those exempt tournaments. Gone are the days of the home and home series in large part.

problem is outside of Georgetown/Marquette- not many games would they be really interested in us.

I'm not sure I agree with this at all--especially this far into the season. If Fox couldn't sell a 2x AA in McDermott vs. just about anyone not named DePaul or SHU (unless those teams exceed expectations this year), then they are not serious about promoting this league (which they clearly are). And there are a handful of good OOC games already that would do well nationally (Syr games as an example). Also I'm pretty sure a Nova or SJU vs. Gtwn is going to garner more national interest than Marq vs. anyone--especially on the East Coast where there are so many TV sets. No offense my Marq brethren but 1 elite 8 does not mean you guys are the gold standard of the league. I still think Nova and Gtwn are the more recognizable BE programs. Now if it is March and it is a battle for 1st place in the league then that might be a little different scenario.

I think you will see more home and homes between quality programs moving forward anyway. The problem with the old BE was that you were already going to get 8 or 9 games vs. Top 25 teams in league play so coaches were wary of adding on to the grind with OOC games (at least Jay W has said as much). That could change. We have a home and home with Syracuse this year; in the past we used to play Texas, Kansas, Duke and Oklahoma in home and homes so I could see Nova grabbing another marquee matchup. I think we will see a bunch of games on Fox as this league starts to take hold. Really this deal with Fox may be such a benefit to our programs in the long haul.
Go Nova!

Just announced there will be over 30 recruiters from over 18 NBA teams will be at the game.

The thing is, that 's not how college basketball has evolved the last few years. I mean, go back and look at Duke's schedule. They have 1 good home game- and that's only ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Everything else is in NIT or neutral site. All the rest are buy type games. Times have changed a lot- even compared to 5 years ago. We aren't going to get a lot of Duke @ Georgetown type of games because Duke doesn't do that type of thing anywhere near as much any more. I mean, even look at Kentucky. They no longer play Indiana on a yearly basis when before it was home and home. Times have changed.

One thing that concerns me about fox. They have 2-3 really drop down great OOC games. When do they play Syracuse @ St John's? 1pm on a Sunday in December. What the heck? Against the NFL?

AFAIK, this is seen as pretty much of a pick 'me game. But I disagree with that characterization of the game.

I've said consistently that IMO Ohio State is possibly the most underrated team in the country. In comparing them to Marquette, there are superficial similarities since both teams are well coached. And both went to the Elite 8 last year. But looking a little deeper, there are major differences:

1. Ohio State has ever key player back for last year, including the top 6 players in their rotation. #7 is their only loss. In contrast, Marquette is replacing 3 starters.

2. Although both teams had very good regular seasons and both went deep into the tournament, there were significant differences. Ohio State won 6 straight postseason games, including the big ten championship game, before losing a 4-point game to Wichita State in the regional finals. In contrast, Marquette was one and done in the Big East tournament, losing to Notre Dame by 8. Then after getting to the regional finals, they were blown out by 16 in a loss to Syracuse.

3. Both teams recruited well, bringing in 4-star players, but Marquette was recruiting to fill holes while Ohio State already had the depth to absorb their one loss so they basically were adding to their depth rather than filling holes.

While the home court benefits Marquette, I think this could be a long night for them.

Nova and Marq are a wash at no2 Georgetown is definitelly number 1. But please make a legit argument for how Nova is above MU.

Scouts from Cleveland, Charlotte, Clippers, Heat, Bulls, Hawks, Nets, Mavs, Pistons, Warriors, Lakers, Suns, Spurs, Bucks, Magic, Raptors, Pacers and Jazz.

Idk who their looking at specifically but I imagine between the two teams there is plenty to look at.

The question is not which program is better in November 2013, (although I do look forward to the two schools competing against each other this year) but rather which carries more national "cred" as one of the top BE schools. But you asked me to make my argument so here goes...

1. Name the BE school that has the most NCAA tourney wins?
2. Name the BE team that has the most NCAA tourney appearances?
3. Which team has played in the BE longer: Marq or Nova?
4. Which team has made a more recent FF: Marq or Nova?
5. Which team has won a more recent Nat Championship (and did so as a member of the BE in one of the most epic finals of all time)? Ask someone who Marq beat for their Nat Championship and maybe 2 out of 10 can remember. Ask the same question about Nova and people can tell you who they beat, the players involved and several details of the game. That adds to the national brand and ties Nova and Gtwn (and SJU since they werein the FF that year) to the BE forever.
6. Since Marq has joined the BE which team has the better head to head record?
7. Which team has made 2 FF's and 7 Elite 8's as a member of the Big East?

I guess that's a pretty good start. Marq has prob had more success the last 4 years or so but, as I said, 1 Elite 8 as a conference member does not vault Marq to the front of the line IMO. If we were ranking national cred as a BE member the argument could be made to put SJU up there too.
Go Nova!
