You know what Gregg Marshall calls our brand of basketball? Suburban HORSE. Because it's a bunch of white suburban kids who whip it around and shoot the shit out of it for 40 minutes in an attempt to get you to play their game.

It was really a half slap in the face from him in irritation after a loss IIRC but I absolutely love the moniker. I'm not sure we all feel the same way but I'll refer to our style as that as long as we play it.

I think Creighton could struggle this year. McDermott will impress but I'm not sure the rest of the team is good enough.

I think they're a team that the new rules really will help out a lot. It's not going to be the old grinding BE that we're used to at all.

I think those rules make us a team that could finish anywhere from first to seventh. It'll help keep people stepped off of our shooters a little and enhance our ball and player movement, but we have, shall we say, 15 (or more) fouls to use at C when you guys dribble drive, and we will likely use a high percentage of them in league. So that can really cut out any/all gains depending on how things play out

Though as a fan I'm cautiously optimistic at how our primary C has done on D the last couple games, so we'll see.

This year they will be fine. My major questions regarding Creighton are after this season when essentially they lose all their big name studs in Gibbs and McDermott. They may not ever see another McDermott for 100 yrs if not ever again. He is their Chris Mullin. Once he leaves, who is filling those gigantic shoes? I'm curious to see what Creighton can do recruiting wise…I don't see them getting too many top 100 kids, but they might become a Temple where they get solid 3 star guys and coach them up to 4 star level. If they don't recruit very well, then they are in danger of mediocrity. This league is counting on Creighton to be a perennial powerhouse…we need way more than just 1 great year with an All American lottery pick. Let's see what they can do with more typical players.

I appreciate your concern. However, I think the Bluejays will be fine. We were approx 11-2 against the BCS conf the last two year while we were recruiting as a mid major. We also ranked in the top 10 in attendance in the country while playing as a mid major. You don't get those records based on one player. We have just signed two players for 2014 that were as high ranked as we have had (with one opening for next year). Our facilities from a practice standpoint ( will be state of the art opening in Spring of '14), our home court (top 10 in the country), and our coaching staff will, I believe, allow us to go beyond what we have accomplished to date since we have much more exposure in the national arena and people see what we have to offer. I can't wait to see the players nationally that see what Creighton provides. This is not at the expense of the other BE teams, but to add to the strength of the league.

Creighton is going to get a ton of exposure here in the East throughout the season, and a deep NCAA run will make them a household name. Probability-wise, that's going to get them better recruits from Big East cities, and Creighton will also benefit from Pitt and West Virginia having left. This is on top of the fact that the Bluejays along with only Kansas and a little Okla State will dominate recruiting in Big 12 country and all the way out to Denver.

First of all, between Omaha and Denver there isn't a whole lot to dominate as far as talent. Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin consistently come up with good talent and are recruited hard by CU, but then you are recruiting against Iowa, Iowa St, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Marquette, DePaul, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri...you get the picture.

Creighton will have to recruit the eastern part of the country, no doubt. I think it is equally as important for CU to continue to keep a line open to Texas. We have two players from Texas today (Dallas area) and another recruit coming in next season from Houston. There is a ton of talent down there. Also, Creighton is recruiting hard in Chicago. Hopefully we'll have some luck in that area and be able to attract some of that talent to Omaha and open a pipeline to the windy city.

Creighton has not typically recruited west of Omaha in the past. Altman recruited some California kids, of which only one really panned out to be a decent player. Ronnie Harrell coming in from Denver is a big get for Creighton to start recruiting more towards the west. But once you get past Denver you don't really hit another large population base until Salt Lake City or Phoenix. We did try to recruit one kid out of Utah this year, but he ended up committing to Utah. I think Omaha was just too far for him.

CNY may as well be Omaha when it comes to recruiting, but cuse has overcome geographical weaknesses with strategies that I think could work for CU. Cuse's primary strategy is bball was king. At CU bball is king and that arena is CU's more modern version of the dome. I suspect national recruits will love the school, campus & program, while also loving that they get to play in major media markets almost always on national tv. Another key element to cuse's formula IMO is consistently producing a major fan presence at the BET. One way to help both of those is getting a couple of key recruits out of the NE every few years, something which Sellers should really help with. The last key being winning with an appealing brand of bball. I'm not trying to disrespect SU legacy but I do think it's possible for CU to pull it off.
