BIG EAST vs. POWER CONFERENCES

Postby redmen9194 » Wed Nov 13, 2013 12:15 pm

Hey guys, my other thread got too bogged down in conversation so I am moving the stat portion of the thread here (good idea Bluejay). I renamed the other thread. So after last night, we are here:

vs. ACC: 1-0
vs. Big 10: 0-1
vs. Pac-12: 0-1
vs. Big XII: 0-0
vs. SEC: 1-0
vs. AAC: 0-0

OVERALL: 2-2

This week we have the following:

11/16: Ohio State vs. Marquette

I don't like the term "power conferences" implying the Big East is not among them. The Big East is absolutely a power conference in basketball. It just doesn't play football. Unfortunately ESPN makes it seem like if your conference doesn't play major football, you are irrelevant in everything...unless of course you play in the ACC or SEC. Not a day goes by where ESPN doesn't have Duke/UK basketball headlines. I'm so hungry for a Big East team to steal the headlines. Screw the ACC.

It's for comparison's sake. The Big East is a power league too. :)
Big East Basketball is what it's always been. Great competition nightly.
If the Atlantic 10 didn't suck, why is everyone looking for the exits?
There is a reason why the A-10 left a team in the Central Time Zone...SLU, your move.

OK -I already went through all of this on the original thread which swelled to 16 pages with only three games played. The Big East is one of the 7 power conferences. This is not implying we are not one - it just identifies the group we are comparing ourselves with.

And one thing we can say that the others can't at this point - NO BAD LOSSES.

Our 2 loses were to ranked teams, and they would have looked nice on the league resume.
I'm thinking that X's win over Tenn is our highest ranked team defeated so far? (27th in poll voting)
...he went up late, and I was already up there.

I agree. I would argue the biggest win is still PC over BC. It was opening night and it would have been a home loss to a non-ranked P5 team also. I also think SHU's win over Kent St. is the toughest win so far for the BE. I base that on how tough & well Kent St. played at Temple in winning & at SHU in losing only 2 days later and the fact that Tennessee hasn't actually beat anyone this year yet.
