I'd love to see DU step it up on the basketball side of things as well, but for now, we probable have to content ourselves with being able to watch lax games out here.

yeah basketball is probably their weakest sport. But they are very strong in just about every other sport on top of lacrosse they are the top ski program in the country, also one of the best hockey schools, great tennis and soccer. All pretty impressive for a school thats only been D1 for 10 years. Would love to see them expand their affiliation with our conference.

No doubt, they've had a tough run here trying to find a group with whom they fit. It just seems like the fans here in CO follow rather than demand/drive basketball success.

I'm sorry but to say there's no difference between the A10 and MWC and the other 23 conferences is just a farce. Whether it's TV coverage, NCAA spots, computer ratings, whatever- there is a huge canyon difference there. And yes, that includes the Valley- which is nothing but a 1 bid conference going forward. 2nd place team isn't even in the top 95.

Heck, you could say that it's a top 10, and include the WCC. But that's it.

You do understand that in ratings terms, the Valley is closer to the MAAC than they are the A10. Also closer to CAA and the Ivy league.

Big East fans have said who they want to be compared to. The cutoff is the AAC...and after next year, the cutoff moves up to the football leagues. No more, no less.
Big East Basketball is what it's always been. Great competition nightly.
If the Atlantic 10 didn't suck, why is everyone looking for the exits?
There is a reason why the A-10 left a team in the Central Time Zone...SLU, your move.

there's a difference between that and what you are trying to say. Huge difference. Try as you want- there is a gap between the A10 and MWC and the other 23 conferences. Or A10, MWC, and WCC, and the other 22 conferences. You can't just lump all other conferences except the 6 together.

This thread is designed to do just that. And hopefully for Big East fans, it succeeds in that regard.

I guess another way to look at it would be this: If a Big East team loses to a team from the A-10 or MWC, is it a bad loss?

Yeah I would agree with that analysis I think that it is not a state with a history of basketball. I think as far as groups an Ideal fit would be the MW but they don't seem interested in a non-football school. I think after a ncaa appearance this year the MVC, WCC, or A10 all seem like possibilities. Its definitely a program with upward momentum but its by no means moving at that fast of a pace. One of my favorite parts about Denver basketball is one of their sponsors is the Colorado State Alumni are one of their sponsors.
Coach Al Mcguire:
"I like seashells and balloons, ribbons and medals, bare feet and wet grass."
"When I'm losing, they call me nuts. When I'm winning, they call me eccentric."
"Queen of victory, pray for us."

It's really hard to find a conference that a lot of schools fit in these days, isn't it?

not automatically in any fashion. similarly is it a bad loss if a Big East team lost to TCU?

Yeah, I thought the original point of these threads was to compare the BE against the group that we consider to be our peers. The A-10 and MWC don't fit that criteria for me. Nor will the AAC after this year, if even this year. The A-10 and AAC have some decent teams at the top and trash after that. The MWC as well, but they've done a great job of gaming the RPI.

if I had to guess, knowing a few DU alums, the WCC would be too parochial, the MVC below them, and if the A-10 would work, why not the BE? There just aren't that many schools that fit their profile anywhere close.
