Creighton tickets sold out!

As a Creighton fan, I hope I am wrong but I do think the all session ticket count is likely to fall off in future years. Speaking for myself, I have gone to the MVC tourney in St. Louis 11 years in a row. With this being our first year in the Big East, Doug's senior year, us having a legit shot at being in the mix for the championship, it was a no-brainer to make the trip this year. However, between flights, hotels, tickets, entertainment, etc. I can already see this trip will cost 3-4x what we would spend on Arch Madness. With that in consideration, I will probably only make the trip once every 4 years or so rather than every year. Outside of the wealthier alums, I imagine many others will fall into this same bucket. I wouldn't count on us bringing 2,000 people at MSG every year. I hope I am wrong though.

FYI - By way of comparison, Creighton sold 4,000 all session tickets to Arch Madness last year and probably had just as many go and buy single game tickets. Our exhibition game attendance tonight was 16,299. Creighton has a great fan base, largely due to a solid history of winning teams but also due to the fact that there are no pro sports teams in the state to compete for fans and that Nebraska is the only other hoops program in the state and their track record pales in comparison to Creighton. Add in an NBA style arena, beer at the games, and a likable coach and it makes for a winning formula for Creighton hoops. Hope it continues to grow in the Big East. We are all excited to be in the new conference with like minded schools and hope that it becomes mutually beneficial for all of our programs. Best of luck to all of you in your openers.

By the way, I'm just old enough to remember the "Kansas City - Omaha Kings" (the same guys out in Sacramento) with Nate Archibald and Phil Ford... I think they also had Otis Birdsong and Tom Burleson too... Scott Wedman I think was on the Kings back then... not sure, my memory is foggy... the late Cotton Fitzsimmons was the coach (kind of a Judd Heathcote/ Rollie Massimino hybrid)...

My dad died when I was a teen and going to the Kings games are my lasting memories with him. You got the players right. Phil Johnson was before Fitzsimmons as coach. Other players were Jimmy Walker, Sam Lacey (really underrated center IMO), Mike D'Antonio and ironman Ron Boone and Omahan from the old ABA. And Tiny was absolutely a thrill to watch in his prime.

I'd hardly say this is amazing quite frankly. I mean, 1st year in the BE, maybe best player in school history, and a deep team. For some folks, if they ever were going to make the trek, it'd be this year.

It'd be a lot more amazing if they had these numbers NEXT year going to the BET.

Disagree like usual. Omaha is the farthest Big East school from NYC and we have already sold more all session tickets than Syracuse last year who is a helluva lot closer and has one of the largest fanbases in the country.

On the other hand, the BE needs as much as it can possibly get to go right this first year, and us selling 2K or whatever has to be seen as us chipping in.

Also this thread might seem to get nauseating with CU fans seemingly boasting about our attendance, but we know what the score is too. It's as much as us feeling good about doing something positive for the conference (and delivering on our promises of a large fan base that travels) as anything else. There's naturally an undercurrent of uncertainty right now, and I know that a lot of the C7 is twitchy about the lasting effects of things - just look at the fact that UConn gets injected into every multipage thread as all the evidence of that that's needed.

As the likely last team in we can feel some eyes upon us, or at least I can. So that's a decent piece of why this thread is now six pages of crowing.

It's also your first time and you have maybe the best team you've ever had. Of course it's going to motivate a lot of the crazy fans(I mean this in a good way)- to make the trek to NYC. Lets see NEXT year when it's not the 1st time and McDermott and friends are gone.

I can guarantee you we wont get 1900 all session tickets sold next year, that still doesn't mean 1900 sold this year is not amazing for a small private school from Omaha Nebraska.

I don't get why people are discounting this. Isn't this exactly what the Big East wants?

Great work by Creighton. I give CU a lot of credit for what they've done, and expect that it will be a great place for Big East hoops.

Could we at least get a good word from you guys about the place you left? :)
Big East Basketball is what it's always been. Great competition nightly.
If the Atlantic 10 didn't suck, why is everyone looking for the exits?
There is a reason why the A-10 left a team in the Central Time Zone...SLU, your move.

it is, but it's not the out of world event that some here are making it out to be. If Creighton didn't travel this year when it's the 1st year, and they had the best player they've ever had- when would they travel to it.

I'd venture a guess this is what the Big East was expecting when McDermott came back this year.

Yeah, I just don't see how there's a negative to a new school selling the crap out of tickets.
