The fact of the matter is that some of those tourneys are ESPN wholly owned enterprises (e.g., Wooden Classic which used to be known as the Anaheim Classic, Old Spice Classic, etc.) that were put together to create content for ESPN around major holidays where there was little sports action, but a lot of potential viewers. Fox will never get the TV rights to these things as a result and we almost have to continue to play in them for noncon SOS. Fox may have to organize their own tourneys if they want to cover these high profile noncon games regularly.

yep. And the non-con games are going more and more to those, or special double headers also aired on ESPN. Seeing less and less home and homes quite frankly.

FOX execs knew all of this going into this venture with the BE, yet they still doubled down. Getting a stronghold in the NFL tv rights game was a much bigger hurdle for FOX IMO & they pulled that off...Not worried one bit, let the games begin!

I'm not sure how you get one, but I've never really believed that system is that accurate. If you have a Nielsen box, you will know it. They have to come to your house and get your permission to install it.
It may not count for ratings, but with digital boxes they have the data for what channels you watched, when, etc. Did you pause, flip during commercials, where do programs fall in your DVR priority, etc. They can also identify if your box is on with the TV off if you have it hooked up with HDMI. It's no coincidence the emails and mailings you'll get from your cable company or satellite provider seem "to know you" and are aimed at your interests.
Because of this I'm pretty sure the Nielsen boxes are no longer mandatory for Nielsen households. The one person I know who was a Nielsen household didn't have a Nielsen box.

I love how some Big East fans are so defensive of FS1. The fact is that in college basketball, no matter what anyone wants to say, ESPN is a huge factor. They control the exempt tournaments, which are huge. I'm sorry, but if the choice is to play an exempt tournament on ESPN or not to play one, the choice is every single time to play the exempt tournament. They're too important to the SOS as well as recruiting now in days.

Weak sentence STEVEr, I am a BE fan why the heck wouldn't I be supportive of FOX vs. ESPN?
Rome (FOX) wasn't built in a a day & every great empire (ESPN) in history has fallen. ALL you are doing is confirming the current position of the champ and the challenger, not the actual outcome of the fight. Just stand up and say you're betting on ESPN vs.Fox in cbb and we'll see dude.

FS1 needs to be sucessful, but it doesn't have to be at ESPN's expense. I think there's more than enough content for 2 good sports channels. I think there's bigger issues to FS1 than the CBB tournaments though. They need to pick up something major like the NBA or Big Ten quite frankly. Or NFL, though with only a 8 game package, that's kind of a limited shelf life there- not enough to make a huge difference.
