It just feels like our ceiling is another 20-21 win campaign. Every 4 yrs or so we build up talent to finally have a real shot at making tourney without sweat. Instead of breaking out to 23-25+ wins with big OOC wins, we always procrastinate and put our backs up against the wall. I know it's super early still, but you can see the way this season likely goes. 20-21 wins total including BET (what have we advanced 1 or 2 times in the last 20 yrs?) and sweating with a bad SOS and a mediocre conf record around .500. 20-21 wins is our cement ceiling...we never do better than that in our best years and it's so frustrating. We wasted another potentially historic year of putrid scheduling and falling flat in the big games. If we scheduled 3-4 ranked or nearly ranked (say 15-25) F5 teams, we would've won 1-2 OOC. But instead we scheduled 2 and just lost 1 of them with Kansas our last shot. I keep thinking one of these years we have to get lucky and everything goes right by accident as with other teams...but it never happens.

Lose by 2 on the road at Indiana and the season is over?

Exactly….Mayhem is not the most measured of individuals.

If SJU had blown a big lead and lost the game (as has happened under prior regimes many times), I would be extremely frustrated. I get that there are no moral victories for many but what I saw last night was a team that was extremely rattled and disorganized for the first half. And while I won’t use the excuse to completely dismiss what happened, that flagrant 2 was awful. Indiana scored 7 points off of that one call. The lead ballooned to 14 points.

The second half was exactly what I’m hoping to see from this team most nights. Clearly, adjustments were made at halftime (a sign of good coaching) and they nearly pulled it out. I know our schedule is weak this year but to dismiss our chances to make the NCAAs on November 18th is laughable.

The season certainly isn't over for the Johnnies, but y'all really should have scheduled an MTE.

It's far too early for the SJU doom and gloom.

A: They haven't lost to Kansas yet- that's a potential game changer

B: Hopefully the league as a whole continues to step up and create more chances for impressive wins in conference play. UConn and Nova don't appear to be going anywhere. MU, SHU, and X all play schedules that give them a chance to join those two in the polls to start league play. Can 1 or 2 manage? The rest of the league gets up to 2 more top-25 games for each one that does.

The key really isn't top 25, it's more top 30. Can the league have more than 2 top 30 teams which would allow home games vs those teams to be Q1 chances.

Yes. I'm talking polls for right now but NET, once it's out, is obviously more important.
