Wait...so a Dayton fan send us a link to Gonzaga forum supposedly showing they "don't want to come here"...I click on it and read it...and they all want to be here and just question how the travel would work out. LOL

Our retired AD Bruce Rasmussen just said we should take Gonzaga in basketball only. That would eliminate the travel costs for all the other sports and make the possibility of adding the Zags even more attractive! Just his take, but it seems like a good one.

Except the NCAA doesn’t allow a school to park basketball in a separate league than it’s other sports.

Don’t want anyone to break any copyright rules, so please don’t post the entirety of an article here. But I wondered what the athletic wrote in their piece today about Big East expansion and who we should consider. I’m sure it’s the usual suspects.

That article threw around Gonzaga, St. Mary's, and UNLV.

It was actually a rather informative and surprising read. The Gonzaga fan base certainly appears to be bullish on the idea, if reading that link is any indication.

Frankly, and they understand this, it's in Gonzaga's best interests to join the Big East now, or very soon, while they're strong. Few won't be there forever and he'll begin to fade at some point while he is still there. They are very remote and they are stuck in a very mid-major conference. They've had a nice run and they're still set up to have some more run, but this high level of performance isn't sustainable for the long haul by remaining the top dog in the WCC.

I've read different opinions on this from both sides. I don't know that if we have a definitive answer for this.

People act like funding travel for Olympic sports is a deal breaker, but how many of those sports are making regular trips already? Gonzaga has to fly their teams to most or all of their league events already, right? A lot of people thought that the travel would be an issue for Creighton as we are on an island, but it doesn’t seem have to been one.

You are incorrect. The decision to join (or not join) the Big East is ultimately up to the president and Board of Trustees of Gonzaga University. The most important factor influencing their decision will be the long-term financial implications of joining the Big East vs. NOT joining the Big East.

I have summarized the relevant decision-making financial information in this post, which clearly shows that remaining in the WCC (under their new agreement with the WCC) puts Gonzaga University in a much better financial situation than joining the Big East - both at present and in the future
