Xavier has 5 poor loses. 3 to end the season. Their bid was almost a lock.

Ya, but the committee no longer considers your record in the last 10 games. Body of work > recent slump.

Definitely an interesting case, particularly in this Covid season.

It's not on the team sheets, but doesn't mean they don't or can't consider it.

Honestly I don't think anyone knows how the committee will rule this year. I think everyone is assuming that they will treat the year as no different from any other, just with less data points. But I bet they make a lot of decisions that shock people. I bet they use the eye test and last 10 a lot more than in years past.

That's true, yet when you have to look very hard at a team you can't overlook the final three games. Per, Mike DeCourcey of FS1 Bracket guy.

3 at-large bids with middling seeds is pathetic. The conference didn't have that poor of a ooc showing either, but I saw this coming when the NET was first released. I don't know, maybe too many coaches treat the ooc schedule as training grounds for the Big East season. We're going to have FOUR teams with .500 or better BE regular season record miss the tourney, so it's time to start thinking differently.

I’ll be rooting hard for the 4 BE teams, but it’s definitely been a poor season for seeds/bids.

Usually I have a decent understanding of why NET and RPI numbers fall where they do.

This year, when i check out the resumes of some teams in non-conference, i'm scratching my head. There must be some specific games that swung conference strength wildly?

If i look at Purdue, which is going to get a 4-seed, i'm baffled why theyre so high. If i have time, i'll look more closely. But Xavier's 22-point blowout of Oklahoma seems to have provided no bounce to them, for example. Marquette with UNC and Wisconsin wins gave us no real pop?

And 3 Big East schools are going to get placed within the first 8 teams out?

Anyway i'll look into things a little more and they maybe scream about it here later today, lol.

I'm hoping Syracuse is out. 1 quad one win playing in the ACC. Leave out Wichita State.

I hope for make it out of the MWC. Boise State, Colorado State, Utah State.

Honestly I think it's a pretty solid showing for the Big East this year. Most people pay far less attention than we do as to exactly how many bids a conference gets. We got 4 our first year (2013) and also in 2019. Not a big deal. Just needed to avoid 3 bids.

That said, we have 3 massive teams in Nova, UConn and Georgetown now making the Tournament. 2 of those teams haven't been there in years. This is great for the brand overall where our 3 most nationally recognized teams make the Tournament. Creighton is also nationally ranked so that helps.

I'd argue that THESE 4 teams being in is better for the brand than when 5 or 6 (mostly lesser known) teams get in.

Next year we do need to perform better OOC though. In 2019-20 we did an excellent job and were on pace for about 7 bids.
