They were 4-4 when he was injured
They finished in the top 3. Who knows what their season might have looked like had he played all season. No player had a bigger impact for their teams success. How could he not get it?
Gillespie should win POY. They were 11-3 with him playing (one of those games vs Bouknight and UConn). They were 0-1 with him injured. They finished 1st and were top 10 in the country most of the year. No player had a bigger impact for his team’s success (which actually led to a conference championship banner).
BTW, with JB in the lineup UConn was also 0-2 vs the 2 other tourney teams in the league. So there’s that.

I have zero issue if either of the Nova guys win it. If we're playing the "who played against who" game, though, Zegarowski didn't play in the game we lost at Butler, which turned out to be the diff between winning the conf and getting second.

I wouldn't have a problem with Z winning it. But your argument breaks down using this same logic. When you consider that Gillespie missed the final game @ Providence in which we lost, I'm not sure you can play the "we would have won the league if not for our star PG missing a game," card.

The same discussion is happening in the Big Ten with Illinois and Michigan as far as co-champs go. The Jays had 1/2 game up in the standings while the Wildcats lead by .03333 in Win Percentage. The series was split, and the Wildcats had 8 Home games and 7 Away games. The 2 road tilts with Xavier and UConn, Nova would be an underdog, and I know they had 2 Depaul games, but those aren't necessarily gimmes seeing how UConn and Creighton struggled there and St. John's lost.
Given the way Nova played on the road, you would say the most likely outcome of those 5 games would be 3-2 tying them with the Jays. Just like the Jays were co-champs with Hall and Nova last year based on their 3-1 record against the other 2, I would say that Nova is 1a and Creighton 1b all things considered. But, Nova is always going to get the benefit of the doubt given their last decade performance and dominance in the BE.

Before games were played the league decided that the regular season crown would be decided by winning %. Nova didn’t get a “benefit of the doubt,” as you describe. They won the league based on the criteria established and agreed upon. So all your would’ve-could’ve-should’ve mean absolutely nothing. We had the best winning % in the league without playing the worst team even once. Definitely would have lost them all and probably finished in 3rd I’m guessing.
Damn Nova conspiracy!!! Maybe take out that first part of your first sentence to be more accurate. How dare we not force both DePaul and X play when they were on pause.
