There's a big difference between the Big East and every other conference. In most conferences the Regular season crown is the most coveted and most fans do not care about the conference tournament crown. This is not true in the Big East. The Big East has the biggest and best conference tournament and in the BE that is the bigger prize. Throw out any rational evaluation the BET is bigger. It just is. Accept it.

Successful year for Georgetown this year in my book:

Sweet 16 or better in the NCAA tournament. That's it.

I would normally say BET title, top 3 finish in the regular season, but our NCAA performance is a huge monkey we desperately need off our back. I don't care if we scrape by and qualify for the NCAA's as a play in to the 12 seed as long as we reach the sweet 16 it will be a successful season. Prior to this year I cared more about regular season success, but enough is enough. We need to break through to the Sweet 16 or beyond.

I'm going to say false on this one. The conferences with multiple bids, sure. But there are 20 conferences out there that rely on their tournament championship to make the NCAA tournament. Believe me, if you ask a Horizon League fan, or SoCon, or any other 1 bid conference which they care more about I guarantee they would say tournament. Now, the Big East tournament certainly has the most tradition and prestige, but that's neither here nor there.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

For Butler I'd say

1. Finish around 5th in the conference
2. NIT berth
3. Compete in every BE game (ie don't make them regret inviting us)

Despite all the losses for Butler I think they'll be much more competitive than people are giving them credit for.

If Marquette fans want to think the BE regular season championship is more important (I didn't even realize there was such a thing) that's their prerogative, but the BE was made at MSG and any hopes of future success to rival what it was will be made there as well. You may not want to admit it, but the BE Tournament champion far and away outshines anything that happened in the regular season. All of the fans of the original 5 will back this up I'm sure.

When they are discussing records and what team did what, they never mention regular season, they only mention the BET championships, it's all that ever mattered and I suspect and hope it is all that will matter going forward.

In the end, nobody and I mean nobody remembers who won the regular season. That's not to take away from whoever does it because they obviously have a great team, but this is an urban league and it has always been about who shines under the bright lights in NY.

I have been in this from the very beginning of the league and it's the truth whether the 5 schools with no actual BET tradition want to admit it. The recruiting pitch has always been come here and try and win this tournament, not come here and we will battle for the regular season crown.

First, say depaul wins the BE tournament one of those really really bad years you think people are going to remember that over say a team that went undefeated in conference play? Next, it actually wasn't built at MSG the league went from Providence, to Syracuse, to Hartford before MSG. Next five teams with no actual BE tradition? Last time I checked your team was getting owned while my team was a actually competing and adding to the success of the old BE. Finally I said I love the tournament and have gone all 4 years I've been at MU so far and intend to go again. But I would take a regular season championship because it means you did well in the regular season night in and night out and worked for your bid to the NCAA tournament.

You want to throw insults, that's your choice. I'm simply offering an opinion based upon 30 years of this league and it's tournament. You have another opinion and once again that's your choice, good luck to your team this year. I'm bagging out now when this shite starts.

Wrong, the only BE fans that maybe don't remember every BET championship like it was yesterday are probably gtown, cuse, or uconn fans only because they won so many. Other than those three schools no other school has one more than 3 BET.

What insult did I say? I'll break what I said into points

1. Certain teams who play night in and night out deserve more respect than the miracle teams who got it together. (Depaul suddenly winning example)

2. BE tournament did not start at MSG

3. You said 5 teams with no real BE tradition well I disagree as Marquette has 8 tournament appearances, 2 sweet 16s, 1 elite 8, and a regular season BE championsip all from the old BE. So it wasn't insulting to defend my school's BE tradition which is real.

4. I explained why I felt like a Regular season championship was more important because of what is implied with it.

No part of that is insulting as far as I can tell. Perhaps you felt the way I defended my school was insulting? But the fact is we have a "BE tradition"

This: Last time I checked your team was getting owned while my team was a actually competing and adding to the success of the old BE

Plus if you had read more clearly, I said BET tradition, not BE

I'm sorry you feel that was insulting, I'm sure I could have said it better. But I did read it wrong I thought you only said BE Tradition not BET Tradition so I will admit my reaction was wayyy too rude.
