My interpretation, he was going to call a charge but at last second saw Kunkel moving and called the audible to a walk.

Yeah it’s a shame to see Kyky buried. He’s a talented (offensive) kid. I think guys like him and Quinerly, etc, Need to understand that this is a big boys league. If you can’t be reliable on both sides of the floor, then you can’t play. He simply can’t guard other 2G’s in this league like Duke, Bouk, Moore, etc. currently.

With the recruits coming in this year and next, there will be huge pressure on him to up his game. Unfortunately with the ease at which guys can transfer he might seek an easier path.

Steele was recently talking up KyKy, so I don't think it's necessarily an attitude problem right now, though earlier in the season there may have been some issues. More than anything, I think KyKy is just a casualty of depth. You have Odom, Scruggs, Johnson, Kunkel, and Jones all demanding lots of playing time at the 1 through 3. Carter is good for 30 minutes at the 4 and the remaining minutes can be covered by playing Wilcher or letting Freemantle slide down to let Griffin get more minutes at the 5. Wilcher and Griffin are probably the only guys that in a vacuum I might consider putting behind KyKy on the depth chart, but:

- Wilcher comes in to play backup at the 4, so he's slotting in where X lost depth due to Stanley tearing his ACL. X would have to go small at the 4 to replace him with KyKy, playing one of the 1 through 3 guys at the 4 and also getting smaller at the guard spots.
- Griffin is steady and reliable as a role player on offense and, more importantly, a phenomenal rebounder on a team that struggles rebounding. He fills a really important niche backing up Freemantle.

Edit: To be clear, I'm not ruling out attitude problems, especially because they have manifested previously, but there's a context to it too. It's tough to find KyKy minutes.

I don't think it was a charge, but he very obviously pushed off Kunkel. So, though it was the same outcome, I was shocked when it was a "travel" rather than an offensive foul.

You are correct! It was a BS travel call... it was clearly an offensive foul.
The offensive player receives the pass as he lands on his right foot and then his left foot comes down before any contact. As he rotates his body to advance up court he sees the defensive player, lowers his left shoulder and initiates contact with the defender as his right foot comes off the floor and he extends his left arm to push the defender. To me a pretty clear offensive foul. Regardless what the announcers said. If the same thing was called against a Xavier player, I don't feel I could argue against it.

eh, blown calls always tend to even out. PC beats SHU on a missed travel then loses to X on a phantom one. Refs just need to give us the game on Saturday and it'll come full circle lol.
