Anybody know how much CBS is paying Fox for our games?

FF is just a mid-major troll at this point, I didn't even bother reading his latest wall of text because I can't take him seriously. I must've said something to trigger him in the past, but I honestly have no clue what.

Now that Dayton clearly has no shot at getting into the Big East (at least for the next 5+ years), he's gone from pretending to be cordial to outright troll. Most Big East fans can stomach that kind of behavior from a championship team like UConn, but not a mid-major like Dayton.

FF, tbh I'm rooting for Dayton because I WANT the Big East to have more expansion options in the future, but your recent posts only justify what Xavier fans have said about your fan base for years. Find a new schtick because you're only hurting your image.

Hey Fieldhouse - since you know what's going to happen between now and 2025, mind using your crystal ball to share some lotto numbers and stock recommendations?

First of all, it's very unlikely that ESPN wouldn't at least submit a bid for Big East content if Fox doesn't re-up early, but there's plenty more to consider - Fox will be far from the only bidder. For instance, the NHL paused negotiations with NBC (deal expires 2022 I believe) to wait and see what happens with the NFL (ESPN deal expires 2021, FOX, NBC, and CBS deals expire 2022). Any shake-up in there could leave any of those networks with some extra money to throw around and NBC in particular - if they lose the NHL - would likely be looking for a new flagship product. CBS has also shown significant interest in picking up sports programming with their recent UEFA Champions League (and Europa League) acquisition. Then there's also streaming only options, such as Amazon (who has an NFL deal).

Any option other than Fox would likely lose us the "nearly every game on national TV" part of the deal, but come that point it'll be up to the conference to determine if they'd rather keep that or get some extra cash instead. Plus, in a post-COVID world, the (however remote) possibility exists that we could see a more significant change in the way sports are consumed.

Yep, well said. I started writing this up in my last post but decided to just delete it.

Imagine going back to 2008, 5 years before the reformed Big East signed with Fox, and claiming that ESPN would have a monopoly on Catholic 7 rights and thus we'd be underpaid. The Catholic 7 and FS1 weren't even concepts at that time. FF is doing that now in a totally different landscape where there are more bidders than ever before.

By 2025 we won't only have Fox bidding for us, but also likely CBS, ESPN and NBC (pretty sure they looked at the AAC last year). Also I'm sure Amazon and other streaming services like YouTube TV would give us a look.

No reason to think Val wouldn't be able to leverage a much improved Big East to more than one bidder. That's ridiculous.

Great input adoraz and Hall2012.

Like most here, I love our deal with Fox. Great broadcast performance (picture and sound) and love its stable of announcers. Our national coverage is fantastic. And the money was pretty nice as we moved into a new era in 2013.

Yet it should seem intuitively obvious to even the casual observer that the Big East will have media rights options moving forward - solid media rights options. With all the fluidity that you guys noted with the traditional content providers, and with the non-traditional, cash-rich technology providers seemingly entering the fray, it would certainly appear that the Big East's chances for more money are higher than its chances for taking a haircut, especially given our performance since 2013 and UCONN's "return".

As for Fieldhouse Flyer, my fellow Big East fans need to understand that this guy used to go by the handle of Muddy Waters. It has to be him. Muddled was known for rambling on through hyper-linked nonsense with muddy globs of information that somehow was meant to support some point he wanted to make about VD. If I recall correctly, this is the same guy that once attempted to use some feeble charts and graphs in an effort to show how UD's program had surpassed Xavier's program at one point. He did that while we were kick stomping VD to the curb and running up our NCAAT participation and win numbers. He got laughed out of cyberspace with that one.

adoraz, as you noted, he now realizes that UD will not get a whiff of Big East membership for at least five years. I'll contend that VD will never be allowed in the Big East because Xavier will want it that way. And, in my opinion, that shouldn't be an issue for anyone here, because I suspect we will have better options than VD down the road anyway. Nonetheless, Muddy isn't happy, because he knows that VD has been boxed out, and Muddy and a large number of his Dayton buddies believe that VD deserves Big East membership even more so than some of the C7 members that brought it forward to today.

Like any program, Dayton has its good and bad fans. Villanova probably sees that with the Big 5. Perhaps Providence sees that with some URI fans. Maybe even Creighton can find a nice WSU Shocker here and there. Another of the Dayton fans that posts here occasionally does a nice job of being respectful and objective most of the time. But make no mistake about it: Dayton has a TON of delusional fans that believe that college basketball revolves around Dayton.

And then there is Muddled Waters, aka Fieldhouse Flyer.

The Old Ivy Network was losing money at $10. a month due to a lack of subscribers. Now they have espn+ @ 4.99 a month. FF seems to think this is Power 5 deal. Haha. Thinking ESPN wouldn't bid on a Big East contract bcuz they have the few Ivy League eyes is delusional.

From a fan's perspective, the Big East - Fox Sports marriage has been perfect. Don't change a thing.

Yup. I’m at a loss to understand why you think a CSM prediction about Dayton is relevant to the topic of this thread (BIG EAST - - PHASE II), but since you obviously put enough stock in a CSM prediction to justify posting it on this thread, I’ll give you some food for thought:

CSM gets it wrong more often than not, and however thrilled you are with them picking Dayton to finish #65 this season, this thread is not the place to gloat about it.
