Good for Creighton, didn't think they'd get the recognition. I think they have Georgetown and Providence coming up, trying to hold onto the ranking turns those into big games.

Wow- I can't believe Creighton went 1-1 (with the win being over an unranked team) and still managed to crack the Top 25. I didn't even bother checking yesterday given that they only had 6 votes (now 97). I understand that nearly everyone ahead of them lost, but that's still an insane leap for such an under the radar week.

At this point half of the remaining games for the Johnnies (7/14) are against the AP Top 25.

Having 4 teams ranked is massive for exposure. For instance, if all 10 teams are playing you could have scenarios of:
Game 1: ranked vs ranked
Game 2: ranked vs ranked
Game 3: unranked vs unranked
Game 4: unranked vs unranked
Game 5: unranked vs unranked
In this case 40% of games are Top 25, and they are ranked vs ranked which is very exciting.

For the other extreme, you could have:
Game 1: ranked vs unranked
Game 2: ranked vs unranked
Game 3: ranked vs unranked
Game 4: ranked vs unranked
Game 5: unranked vs unranked
In this case 80% of games are ranked.

This will be tough to maintain, but we should have at least 3 ranked team by the end of the year. Excellent timing given that the Big East and Fox are likely negotiating a reworked contract ahead of UConn's arrival in the summer, and ranked teams could only help our TV ratings.

Side note: the 15 team ACC only has 3 ranked teams. That's 20% vs 40% for the Big East.

Gonzaga is starting to get the MSU-like treatment in the polls, perpetually overrated with nobody questioning. They beat one ranked team on neutral in OT, and got waxed by Michigan. No one with a brain should not vote for Baylor. Whatever, carry on mid-major minded people.

Good for Butler.

351 coaches would rather play Dayton in NCAAT than Nova. Whatever, Nova's near where they should be.

SHU is also near where they should be.

Who are the morons voting for the likes of Houston, Washington, Duquesne, St. Mary's, and more? Good for Creighton to take the 25th spot despite idiotic voting! It was long overdue.

The price of getting 4 teams ranked was nobody else getting votes in the BE.

I'd rather play Dayton in the NCAAT too, that's a much easier game than Nova.

The poll is laughable. Anyone who has Gonzaga ahead of Baylor isn't paying attention, which sadly is the majority of voters. Just look at NET where they are #1 vs #7. A lot of them must simply be thinking "wow 18-1 and they haven't lost yet! Can't move them down until they lose".

Last week Dayton was 1 spot and 10 votes ahead of Villanova. Dayton beat a bad UMass squad while Nova won @ Creighton (who is now ranked... after they lost) and blew out Georgetown. The result? Dayton is still 1 spot ahead of Nova, and picked up 10 more votes to go 20 votes ahead. Dayton is a good team and deserves to be in the teens... maybe even ahead of Nova given their #8 NET. That said, the logic behind their voting week to week just doesn't make sense.

I'm not really complaining, the Big East is fairly represented in the poll this week. I don't really think anyone else deserves votes given that half the league is 1-3 or worse in conference. Just saying, most of us would do a better job than the AP voters.

Dayton went 1-2 in their major OOC games (L to KU, Colorado, W vs St Mary's). Close losses, but not much on the Selection Sunday sheet that's going to help them. Every loss from here on out will hurt their ranking and NET a ton. Maybe the wins over Georgia and VaTech will help more later in the year, but neither is a slam dunk NCAA team right now.

They've been kind of riding the wave of a quality loss to kansas for awhile. combine that with obi toppin hype and a very high kenpom rating and you have your explanation

The only benefit of playing in a mid major conference is that if you keep winning you do get a bit of an artificial lift into the top 10. That said we’re pretty deep and if I were a BE team I’d not want to see us in in the NCAA until as late as possible. Our only 2 loses were in OT on neutral courts. Of course I’ve just jinxed us....

Well, you’re not. Probably never will be.
