10 Nova
12 Butler

others receiving votes:
28 Xavier
29 DePaul
34 Marquette
37 Creighton
39 Georgetown
42 SJU
44 Seton Hall

I didn't think Nova would jump Butler because I expected a bigger NET reaction.

I need someone to explain to me how people are voting for 9-3 Iowa ahead of 12-1 DePaul.

Don't you know that beating future NIT squad Cincinnati on a neutral court is really impressive?

Blind resume' time:

Team A:
Wins vs. top 100 NET =
38(N) by 5
46 (A) by 4
52(H) by 1
Losses vs. top 100 Net =
13 (N) by 8

Team B:
Wins vs Top 100 =
12 (N) by 1
28 (H) by 8
47 (N) by 9
52 (A) by 9
56 (H) by 14
67 (N) by 11
Losses vs top 100 =
6 (A) by 1

Team A (Memphis) ranked 3 spots higher than team B (Butler). Lazy AP voters. Butler has destroyed just about everyone they have faced and vs. the one common opponent they win on the road by 9 as opposed to by 1 at home.

Butler fans, you have been relatively quiet about the lack of respect you are receiving. I will toot your team's horn for you. Butler has had an extraordinary OOC. They should be ranked top 5 IMO. Glad that the NET ratings are capturing their performance to date.

Tip of the cap from an opposing team fan who has been extremely impressed by your team...

Not surprised at all to see only 2 teams in with 9 receiving votes. Thought X had a shot to move up, but maybe their NET cost them a few votes.

As for Butler not getting the respect they deserve- they have the same issue as DePaul and St. John's. All 3 were picked to finish bottom of the conference and thus are being undervalued. I think that's silly as we have already played 13 actual games and shouldn't keep rewarding pre-season favorites like Arizona.

By the time Big East play is done we should have at least 3 teams ranked, but knowing how the AP works (only pay attention to ranked wins) we could end up with 2.

Thankfully the poll is ultimately meaningless aside from exposure.

The fact that they aren't even top 10 is absurd. Also, Memphis still being ranked is silly. The star player that justified their top 10 ranking isn't coming back, and they are one spot behind X in Kenpom at 29th. Their resume is that of a ranked team, but 8th in the country? No. I'm guessing voters are just waiting to drop them when they lose, because so many voters follow the stupid rule of not dropping a team unless they lose.

Iowa vs DePaul

DePaul vs. NET Top 100
Wins =
26 (A) +15
28 (A) +5
30 (H) +5
Losses =
None vs top 100 but 161 (H) - 5

Iowa:
Wins =
28 (H) +20
30 (N) +11
68 (A) +16
84 (A) +14
86 (N) +7
Losses =
1 (N) -10
16 (A) -12
35 (H) -15

Iowa has definitely tested themselves. DePaul has had more top end victories, with 2 on the road. The loss is not a great one though. The head to head vs. DePaul could be used to put the Blue Demons in at #25 but looking at Iowa's overall resume', it's not so bad. Come March that W @ Iowa is only going to help DePaul.
