My post made no commentary on whether private schools > public schools. They are structurally different animals and part of what made the original Big East so successful was that it focused on urban, private Catholic schools where basketball was front and center. Creighton just emerged from a mishmash conference of small private schools and large state schools (the MVC). The schools did not share a common purpose, which led to infighting with respect to spending commitments, marketing, and academic aspirations.

The whole point of the new Big East is to align likeminded schools with the same goals. I think the decision to start adding large, publicly funded universities is a mistake and defeats the point of the breakaway.

The difference between VCU and Butler regarding coaches is that even though Stevens left, Butler was still a very good institutional fit. If Smart leaves, that leaves a school that no longer has their excellent coach and is NOT an institutional fit.

The point of the breakaway was akin to amputating your leg to stop the infection. The longer they waited, the more screwed the C7 were going to be. Don't get high and mighty, if UConn asked to come back they would welcome them in a minute.

No to Dayton fans are dbags and they define mid major, la salle would be nice if they keep winning but nova would never let them in, I feel like Davidson could be an interesting add if they go into the A10 and crush it, VCU I'm not a fan of they had a heavily senior team that played out of their minds, I know they've had a few big wins over the years but the fact that their fans are still bragging about beating duke however many years ago shows that they're below us. Richmond would bring academic prestige and occasional success plus they'd likely add another win for DePaul some years which could help them rebuild. SLU should be a lock unless they crap the bed with Jim crews, hope they don't but I could see it. Personally I want to see Loyola Chicago suddenly become real good or have a Cinderella season because we need more Chicago presence (DePaul doesn't cut it)

Would you say the same for Cincinnati? South Florida? Where does it stop?

That plus Indianapolis > Richmond. Also, Indiana recruiting is very very fertile, so a nice place to stake a presence.

Completely agree, like minded is vague, we'd take many public schools in a heartbeat if they were available. Does anyone think (not that it will happen) if UConn dropped football we wouldn't be knocking on their door?

Cincy would have been a yes before Xavier. South Florida? What? It's about basketball and money, not public vs private.

Its not complicated, its just a cost-benefit analysis. I would say the same for both those schools probably.

UConn and UMass would be ideal adds if it wasn't for football.
