creighton injuries, losing the hausers, and providence being providence has hurt us a bit. nova and x are both still without our highest ranked freshmen and integrating a lot of new guys. i think both will be really good by the end of the year.

Sure seemed like they were playing dirty from where I was (baseline under the Nova basket). Between the hacking and the flopping, I didn't like them. Had a lot more respect for Mississippi State on Friday.

That’s Baylor. They mug ya. Lots of hugging and body checks. Nova should have flopped more to force the refs to make calls. If one ref calls ya for flopping, another will give you a make up call on the other end.

Baylor caught on fire at the end of Nova’s game.

Xavier had some more brain-farting episodes tonight, but Florida shot 60+%.

We fought back and came up short.

X and Nova will be fine down the road.

It's been a decent start to the season overall. Not great, but certainly better than last year. Maybe a tiny bit below expectations, though 2 in the projected basement (DePaul and Butler) are still undefeated with several good wins. Georgetown is off to a good start. St. John's has been decent. Creighton is doing as expected (4-1). Providence is really the only disappointment thus far, but keep in mind our leader Nova lost to Penn last year. Nearly every conference (possibly every conference?) has worse losses than we do.

As for the top of our conference, tomorrow we should still have 3 ranked teams (at worst 2). Last year during this time we had a week or two without any ranked teams.

Anyways, glad my Johnnies were able to go 1-1 this weekend. We nearly went 0-2 which would've been pretty disappointing. I'll take a 5-2 start overall given we have played solid competition and have low expectations.

Our conference has underperformed clearly so far. Coming up short in the big games seemingly 75% of the time. This was supposed to be arguably our best year ever...not a good start.

Mullin, I know your comment wasn't directed at Villanova, but I would not say Villanova underperformed yesterday. We could have done things better, like our 3 point defense or find more ways to break Baylor's zone, but regardless, Baylor was the better team yesterday. Better coached and just plain played better. It happens. We will learn from it and improve because of it.

The game against OSU was an ass kicking, and we played well against Baylor, but again, they were the better team yesterday, regardless, both are ranked teams in power conferences and many feel OSU is a Final 4 team. Nova doesn't have a single Senior on the squad. Can only improve from here.

If you ran a simulation given the Vegas lines (which is how we should be judged), then we'd be where we're currently at. Worst case we'd be a game or two under expectations.

Nova should be 5-1 rather than 4-2, so I'll give you one game there. Xavier is lucky to be 6-1 and should be 5-2. Seton Hall is exactly where they should be (4-1) given they were slight underdogs vs MSU and slight favorites at St. Louis. Those were our top 3 teams this season, and overall they are exactly where they were expected to be. Not exciting as we all wanted to see Seton Hall upset MSU for instance, but on track to make the tournament. They weren't pre-season top 5/10 teams, but rather 10-25 teams which is where they belong unless they overachieve.

As for the rest of the conference, Providence has underperformed but they're offset by DePaul. Everyone else is pretty much doing as expected.

When you take emotion out of it and start looking at expectations vs reality rather than being concerned over what casuals think of us every time Nova loses, then "clearly" becomes a lot less clear. Nobody is mocking Nova for losing to 2 ranked teams. At the end of the season we'll be judged based on how many teams get into the Tournament. Also we'll need to keep at least 2-3 teams in the AP Top 25, which we've done so far.
