It's insane. Paying for a recruit and then playing him while he was declared ineligible gets them essentially no penalty at all - he just has to sit out the rest of their pansy ooc schedule and then he'll be back for the majority of conference play and the postseason (assuming they qualify).

Meanwhile SHU gets hammered for an assistant coach having a friendship with/talking to a player's mom on the phone.

Sorry, but Wiseman should be ineligible (sucks for him but he'll be fine, he's a 1st round pick regardless), Penny should be suspended, and the wins he played in should be vacated. If that damages the resume enough to hurt their tourney prospects (it shouldn't, it's 3 cupcakes but would lower the win total), it's their own fault.

The report that I saw said the NCAA could open up a separate investigation.

Apparently the Penny/University sanctions are still TBD.

Memphis State still has sanctions and penalties coming its way, IMO. The knowingly played an ineligible player, aware there could be additional consequences. They lost. In addition, they hired a head coach with zero collegiate or professional coaching experience, with the knowledge that he paid for a known highly-skilled player to move to be closer to the school he coached (and to play for him).

When you play with fire, you are going to get burned. Unfortunately, Memphis State has been burned pretty badly over the past 30 years - Penny/Wiseman, Calipari/Rose, Dana Kirk, etc.
