Honestly? Mack isn't a bad fit in the NEC. That two-tiered NEC/MAAC "Northeastern small private schools" structure seems to work pretty well for the schools involved.

First year D1 school Merrimack College goes to Northwestern and won last night.

Merrimack lost 84-64 in its opener Wednesday at Maine. The North Andover, Massachusetts, school is starting its four-year transition from Division II to Division I this season. The Warriors are in the process of joining the Northeast Conference and will play a full conference schedule this season but will not be eligible for the postseason.
Nebraska by birth, Creighton by choice.

Nicholls State (0-1) and Pitt coming down to the wire.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Northeast schools NOT in the Big East haven't been doing so well the past few years.

Syracuse did go on a Tournament run several years ago, but overall certainly haven't been themselves. When is the last time a non-Big East northeastern school was ranked? Buffalo last year (lol)?

In 2019 VIllanova, St. John's and Seton Hall have all been ranked.

It took double OT but the mighty Cornhuskers fall once again, this time 79-78 to the Southern Utah Thunderbirds.

BC Pitt and Cuse were brought in as cheap labor to lay brick, pressure wash and mow the ditches along Tobacco Road, where they will rot forevermore.
