Injuries have cursed us since joining the Big East - namely Watson, Krampejl, and Epperson. That said, many fans will suggest that Mac has mismanaged the roster for years and of course this season it’s a lack of interior size. One guy left over 6’6”? Cmon.

Two guys over 6-6, not that it makes much difference. As for Mac's roster management, we lost our 6-9 starting center and a 7-foot backup in May. Would have been hard to recruit a big a year ago to a roster that had Krampelj, Frohling, Epperson and Bishop all scheduled to be playing this year. So we've lost 3 or our 4 bigs for this year since May.

Frankly, it's pretty amazing what Mac has done in switching from midmajor recruiting to the BE. However, while the talent has upgraded, the depth isn't there yet. In addition to Watson, Krampelj and Epperson injuries, people overlook last year's loss of Jefferson. He was averaging around 10ppg and 5 rb before he had ankle surgery in early January, and while he returned, he was never the same. And while we're whining, Davion MIntz is also currently out with a high ankle sprain.

Good call WW.

We just lost three talented bigs in an involuntary manner. Mac’s fault? Right.

Everyone knew Sam was leaving to go home. Martin was 50/50, but no one was surprised he left to play professionally after his injuries.

It doesn’t matter why they left or if they left involuntarily, the issue is that we didn’t address the lack of size on the roster proactively. And we still have an open scholarship, right?

Froling didn’t stop going to class until the spring. Same with Martin leaving, that wasn’t a sure bet until after season’s end.

So we are supposed to step in at that late date and fill a need that wasn’t a need as late as conference play?

The thing about this is we’ve been down this road before with Suarez, who is generally used by Mac haters as the poster child for how not to do things.

There are many 6-10 teams in the nation that can wake up on Valentines Day needing a high quality big and then getting one. We are not one of those teams. Do you think we didn’t try?

A mid year transfer who had to sit sure would’ve worked nicely last season, but I’m glad Scurry gets his scholarship again instead of having some interior depth.

Ah, sarcasm.

So we would have needed to

A)realized we needed an additional big. Well we did realize that we needed one and got Jones. But you mean two, right, well then, should have...
B)found a mid year big on top of that who would have been worth it. Surely there were scores of them available.

We then would have had to...

A)Sell them on the school while having three viable and talented bigs whose situations weren’t clear (I.e. that they might still be here, so selling PT wasn’t a viable approach),
B)Beat out all the other schools who are chasing whomever (assuming that even ONE exists at the semester break), and
C)Do all of this in a narrow window that closes the second week of January, which is way before the Froling/Krampelj had even really developed.

So yeah, shame, SHAME, on CU’s staff for not getting that midsemester big.

Saying that we should have gotten one is like saying all you need to do to get great scores at Amen Corner is hit the ball close to the hole, and we should have done that.

Loving this conversation...

We have 3 guys 6-8 or better / KJones, Bishop, and Nic Zeil. Too late for another 2019 transfer kid...they are all gone but 1 or 2 with question marks.
Looks like my guy Zeil will pickup a scholie and play good minutes. He made a great call to reopen his recruitment, unlike Enaruna. I gotta hunch we will be okay.

To my fellow Jays fans: This is why you can never get your hopes up. Like I said earlier, I wasn't even all that excited to begin with and now I don't even think we'll make the dance. Yes, I love our backcourt but they can only take you so far. You've gotta have good bigs especially in a league like this. If (by an act of God) they do make it, it'll be a first round blowout like always. Some people have said "next year was supposed to be the special year anyway." On the surface that looks true as Mintz and Jones are the only seniors and the new got Kalkbrenner coming in and Antwann Jones becomes eligible.

No. I can't even get excited for next year because I know someone at some point will get hurt. Never ever get excited ever again, Jays fans. Just never get your hopes up.

I sure hope I eat some crow this season.
