Creighton: 15,980 - 8th
Marquette: 15,611 - 9th
Xavier: 10,034
SJU: 9,798
Providence: 9,542
Villanova: 9,053
*Uconn: 8,652
Seton Hall: 8,507
Butler: 8,419
Georgetown: 7,212
DePaul: 3,806

Conference Summary:

Season: 9,999 per game
-5th in division 1. 3rd - 5th are very close, with a huge gap between 5th and 6th.
-Big East had the largest drop in attendance in division 1. But upon closer inspection, it seems like the numbers include NIT/CBI home games, and the conference did send an unusually large number of teams to these tournaments. DePaul alone hosted 5 CBI games.
-Without the fluke number of NIT/CBI games hosted + addition of uconn, BE should be able to challenge the ACC for 3rd.

Conference Tournament: 19,756 per game
-1st. Again, a huge gap between 5th and 6th.

As far as attendance is concerned, it looks like the term "Power 6" isn't accurate, as PAC12 in a strange place between the power conferences and MWC/AAC.

St. John's BBall
@StJohnsBBall
#SJUBB enjoyed the 12th highest increase in attendance last year in all of Division I, an average of more than 1,600+ fans per game compared to 2017-18! In @BIGEASTMBB games played at @TheGarden, the Johnnies drew more than 18,000 fans on average.

So our overall attendance was 4th, ahead of the Big XII, but the Big XII had a higher average attendance than we did because we played more on campus NIT/CBI games. Since we were 1st in the conference tournament (not counted towards season attendance?) I think for everything combined we'd be 3rd/4th on average.

We had a down year on the court, so still pretty good attendance overall (especially for the conference tournament obviously).

With the BET included and getting rid of those NIT/CBI home games, the BE was probably ahead of the Big12 last season. I mean DePaul went from 6000+ (granted new arena) to 3800 with a better team. 2018 numbers show difference of only 5 attendees per game between the 2 conferences. We've gained quite a bit on them since 2014, but the biggest gain has been the conference tournament, going from 5th to comfortably 1st. You can check out the numbers going back to 1976.

Reading the trend, I expect 4th in 2020, and 3rd in 2021 with Connecticut on board. A competitive SJU with increased MSG games should boost the numbers considerably. For Nova, I don't sense any urgency to play more than 5 games at the WFC. But with the 20 game schedule + 2 conference challenges, a reduced Big5 load can result in an extra home game to pad total attendance.

Georgetown should go up this year because the non-conference schedule isn't complete trash.

Why would they count NIT games? Just screws up the data.

This makes sense now why we're at less than 100%. We were over 100% on the regular season and then had 6000 or so for the NIT game. That's honestly pretty good for an NIT game, but seriously brings down the average

The other thing about all of our NIT teams is that they all were high seeds and everyone hosted their game I believe. And DePaul ended up hosting like 5 CBI games. That had to kill their average. Methinks if you were to take strictly regular season data, the big east would be where we normally are. Maybe even better with an improved St. John's.

Ditto for Creighton...before NIT we averaged 17,108, which would have placed 6th nationally. But NIT games against Loyola (5,755) and Memphis (7,031) pulled the average down significantly.

Hahaha you're giving Depaul wayyyy too much credit if you think hosting CBI games killed their average
