Bill Marsh wrote:Scott Gleeson of USA Today is also doing a daily countdown. In his case, he's projecting the 68 teams that will make the tournament. So far, no one from the Big East, but he's only down to #56. The only Catholic school is Manhattan from the MAAC at #59. It's basically a group of mid majors so far, who are expected to win their conferences. Here's the list through today:

68. Robert Morris
67. Charleston Southern
66. Northwestern State.
65. Norfolk State
64. Georgia State
63. BU
62. Vermont
61. Texas Southern
60. Elon
59. Manhattan
58. Toledo
57. Towson
56. Florida Gulf Coast
55. Weber Stat
54. Long Beach State
53. Eastern Kentucky
52. Wright State
51. Denver

We can end some of the suspense no this countdown since Scott Gleeson and his colleagues at USA did publish their pre-season top 25 on July 26. Here it is:

25. Baylor
24. Michigan
23. Indiana
22. New Mexico
21. Gonzaga
20. Georgetown
19. Virginia
18. VCU
17. Villanova
16.Iowa
15. Oregon
14. Colorado
13. Ohio State
12. Kansas
11. Wichita State
10. Memphis
9. Syracuse
8. Marquette
7. Arizona
6. Florida
5. Michigan State
4. Louisville
3. North Carolina
2. Duke
1. Kentucky

We'll see if they make any changes to these picks as we get closer to the opening of the season.

You sure it's from July? I found that ranking but it was from April before Whittington went down, Gibbs was approved for year 6 and vander blue declared for draft. (Not sure if there's any other huge stories)

You're right. I posted their earlier list. Here's the one I meant to post. It's a revision of the earlier one and was published on June 19, not in July. It is not as faborable to the Big East. FWIW, here it is:

25. St. Louis
24. Indiana
23. Creighton
22. Iowa
21. Virginia
20. Gonzaga
19. Marquette
18. Colorado
17. New Mexico
16. UConn
15. VCU
14. Memphis
13. Wichita State
12. North Carolina
11. Oklahoma State
10. Ohio State
9. Syracuse
8. Michigan
7. Arizona
6. Florida
5. Kansa
4. Duke
3. Louisville
2. Michigan State
1. Kentucky

This list did account for losses to the NBA draft and other developments since the season ended. We'll see if there are any further changes in the next 6 weeks.

Really? Whiny?

The fact is 100% accurate.

The fact may be accurate, but it doesn't change the fact that they're in a joke of a conference. Other than Virginia Commonwealth and Saint Louis, most of that league wouldn't win the Great West. I've been away for awhile, but ripping the A-10 never gets old.

The Big East is a major league and will be great basketball.
Big East Basketball is what it's always been. Great competition nightly.
If the Atlantic 10 didn't suck, why is everyone looking for the exits?
There is a reason why the A-10 left a team in the Central Time Zone...SLU, your move.

Thought I'd bring this back up as Providence has entered the rankings at #60 (personally I think they are at least 20 spots higher than that, but whatever). Interestingly, despite them being #60 the author has them in the NIT again. That's a bit of a head scratcher. I believe that is the first 2 of our 10 in with Providence at 60 and Seton Hall at 109. DePaul, I'm assuming, will not be on this list. It's also pretty clear that the list does not have up-to-date facts.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

It's the auto bids. 19 have been listed so far. Providence is the 11th team out at #60. Still have 6 teams left. Butler, Creighton, Georgetown, Villanova, St John's, and Marquette.

Xavier was like #72.
