30 years ago, Xavier faced Georgetown in the second round in a matchup between Georgetown two future hall of famers, Alonzo mourning and dikembe mutombo, and Xavier’s Tyrone hill, Derek strong, and Aaron Williams who all played ten + years in the NBA. One of the most important games in Xavier history.

I was there at the Hoosier Dome for that game. My tickets were for seats so far away that sight and sound literally didn't synch up. But friends smuggled me into bleacher seats above the courtside seats for the first game (involving Purdue). When Purdue lost, their fans left en masse leaving lots of courtside seats available. I ended up sitting in about the third row center court for the XU-G'town game. Needless to say, as a Xavier fan, I had a blast watching Hill and Strong outplay Georgetown's "twin towers".
Xavier will surprise. Never count them out of the Dance.

Reminds me of the 2002-03/2003-04 H&H with Nova. Korver vs Buchanan and in the return game Funk vs Foye. Real epic battles...

Waaait a darned minute here git... NEVER HAPPENED!

Little Creighton, despite repeated begging on the part of Prez's Schlegel and Lannon, never got a game with Nova. We weren't worthy and they got nothing from giving us a game.
Same with "brother" G'twn. Nothing to gain from giving us a game. We have had 86 games with Marquette, 37 with Notre Dame, 36 with DePaul, even 25 with Providence, and 19 with the Johnnies. Even 23 games vs beloved, cheating-ass S'Cuse.
But no...not good enough to play Nova and G'twn, at least not before 2013. Steam rises and blood boils just thinking about it. Never forget that mess...got a chip the size of Gibraltar I carry for "old times sake" to remind me, brethren.
It's why I carry the "luv" for the Radnorites and the Foggy Bottom minions!

AaaHAaaa GTMO, now I understand! Never looked at it from that perspective. That said, probably a couple of good reasons for not doing the H&H prior to your entry into the BE.

the Big 5 sucks 4 OOC every year out of the available slots. Couple that with at least 1 tournament, a huge BE schedule with the number of games, and Nova working to get those games with the likes of Kentucky, Kansas and UNC probably left very little room for slots. Most importantly, Nova admin probably didn't want to expose the fragile Nova student body and alumni to your $1.00 beer night! And then there is the whole Nebraska thing ;)

You're probably right in that those factors weighed big...but for me our ONLY rival is Nova. We handle Gtwn well enough.

Am I allowed to call BS here. Aren't you guys well known for pillaging various quaint nooks and crannies of Radnor?

Agreed. I still have my Maloney's and Erin's mugs, which saw hundreds of 5 dollar refills of lager in their time.

Sports reference only goes back to 49-50 but your records against the Big East say it's a pretty one sided rivalry.

14-38 (33-55 all time) vs MU

11-15 vs Xavier

10-15 vs PC

6-13 vs SHU

3-13 vs VU

17-14 vs Depaul

10-9 vs SJU

10-5 vs butler

8-6 vs GT
