"Aresco had planned to take a vacation to Europe this week, but that was postponed so he could address this situation."

LOL, this is a horrible look. You can't be this unaware of what's going on with the biggest brand in your conference.

“It didn’t come as a huge surprise. We knew it could possibly happen. On the other hand, nobody does this out in the open so you typically don’t get a heads up,” Aresco said. “There have been rumors percolating for years. They had expressed their unhappiness in various ways. We thought that discontent was misguided.”

Call me crazy, but if you know this about your biggest school, you need to be doing something besides telling them their fears are misguided

“Connecticut has expressed a desire of going back to a romanticized past that was the former Big East,” Aresco said. “It would typically be very rare for a large state university to do that based off basketball. If you are in college athletics at the highest level, you need to be all in with football.”

At what cost though? Doing this in the American was killing UConn's AD. You can't expect UConn to just watch their athletic department die a slow death.
Besides, this conference as no future. A. All the members don't want to be in the conference (except ECU and Tulane are probably thrilled) and B. The power conference football teams in your areas are simply never going to allow you to succeed. They'll choke you to death. None of those teams have any shot at major football. You'll continue to pour resources into a football program that has no chance of rising higher than C-USA levels and choke out your basketball programs.

IMO, this validates UConn's decision. If the commissioner of the league is this devoted to the importance of football over basketball, it's no wonder UConn would be unhappy.

UConn hasn’t been good.

I think the AAC got the Huskies at the right time. Even though UConn was not successful on the court or field, they allowed the conference a familiar foe to build up their league.

Now that the AAC got their TV deal, UConns value to them is less than UConns value here.

Unless Danny Hurley is the next Jim Calhoun... but that’s not very likely since they already have the same number of losing seasons at UConn.

Was just reading this article and oh boy is it hilarious and full of stupidity. The guy running the American doesn’t seem too bright.

Wow, he really is either stupid or delusional. I think thats what we should call them all now. Instead of the AAC it's the DAC, the Delusional Athletic Conference!

What’s funny about all of this is that UC fans have been loving on Aresco because he’s been taking these public shots at UConn. Granted, the guy has a near impossible job, but he’s clearly the most inept of any conference commissioner, and he had to have had some sort of escalation clause in his contract where he got a bonus if the AAC gets a $Billion (with a “B”) TV contract done with ESPN.

UC fans have to lie to themselves constantly to keep their sanity. they have to laugh to keep from crying. Lots of media deal truthers out there mad online that Xavier is getting almost as much for their basketball program that they are for their basketball and football team combined. These same folks insist playing on ESPN+ is better than Fox

I don't want us to have to call in any favors for UConn to get better TV coverage for its FB team. Thats their problem, I don't want us losing any political capital on UConn FB.

Totally agree! UConn still has the P5 football dream, however remote it may be. It's in the best interest of the BE for UConn football to fail. Regardless of how much of a long shot a P5 invite is, we all know that UConn would drop us quicker than a whore drops her drawers if that invite came, and I wouldn't blame them, or be mad, you do what's best for your school.
