Wait, X fans call Dayton fans Sweater Vests? That’s what Neb fans call Creighton fans  So are the Flyers rich snobs or misogynistic thugs?

Well X fans, the board can see what boorish behavior can be. I enjoy getting under your skin. Too easy really. So you have had very very good basketball success and because of it were invited in. But your time is done....it’s our time. This will be fun, I will check in all year and we will go head to head and see who is having the better year. If my posts get ya going how are you going to handle UD having a better BB team! Wait to hear Jay Bilas talking about us in Maui. This is no chest pounding , we will be very very good this year and perhaps have the player of the year in the country in Obi Toppin. I for the first time will root hard for you to make the NCAA and then really hope they match us up! To the other school posters, our fans are 99% good to be with and around. You probably don’t know much about X fans since they don’t travel. I was at the Garden this year and they had by far the least number of fans in the building. For those of you that were there you can verify. This is fun, gets us thru the summer!!!

A Dayton fan, who revealed in a previous post that he is no younger than his early 60s, has resorted to being an internet troll on his ex’s conference message board 6 years after his program was dumped. Unfortunately, this behavior is a perfect representation of so many Flyer fans. I pray that he finds peace and comfort in the Atlantic 10 - his forever home.

I think you would find that a lot of Xavier fans, myself included, would enjoy playing Dayton again. But the beauty of the rivalry is that I also fully support letting Dayton rot in the A-10 and never seeing them again.

This board is the only place keeping the rivalry alive anyway. For most X fans, UC is the big rival and Butler has replaced Dayton as little brother.

In the end, nobody can tell Xavier who to play. Without devolving into a realignment argument (I think everyone can agree that we're good at 11 for a while), I just find it a little strange that a rivalry of X/UD's level don't happen more often. Part of me wishes that Nova has a real rival. I don't know the exact detail of Dayton's boorish fan behavior, so I'll just let it be.

#1. Xavier's primary rival is the University of Cincinnati. If you're a true fan of college basketball, then you know that rivalry to be one of the top rivalries in the nation. It has had its crazy and intense moments, but it has become bigger than either program. So, we have our primary rival. Beyond that, like every other program in the Big East, we are enjoying strong competition in BE conference play. And we otherwise are doing what we need to do in the OOC, especially with the Wake Forest series (Prosser), the Gavitt Games when we're in them, and the new Big 12 matchup's.

#2. Well, you don't understand, nor should you be expected to understand the exact nature of Dayton's fanbase base and their boorish behavior, especially when it comes to Xavier. Xavier's move to the Big East and what had become a very toxic series sealed the fate of that relationship. Little Brother simply became too jealous and got carried away. You are certainly free to believe that UD can become a viable candidate at some point for Big East membership. I would not count on that happening, and that statement has nothing to do with how they may perform in the future (most likely not well, based on the last 30 years of relative suckiness).

#3. I have to believe that most fans here don't view Joe Lunardi as an authority on college basketball when it comes to rankings or NCAA tournament brackets. A quick Google search reflects that NBC has Xavier ranked #15 and ESPN has Xavier ranked #20 at this point in the preseason. If the St. John's fan loves his ghetto experience so much, then call your AD and have him schedule you guys into a home and home with UD. The Cryers would eat that up.

#4. Everyone here who is being honest with themselves knows the Big East is now going to hold at 11, probably at least until the mid-20s, when everything (con realignment) may start shifting again or when the media contracts adjust again (assuming that UConn's entry doesn't involve a major $-adjustment per school and isn't extended into the 30s). The Presidents clearly had no interest in adding a program until UConn came along. Only UConn warranted consideration. Who knows when additional content demands or other unforeseen factors will cause the next trigger to be pulled, but it doesn't look like any of that will be happening anytime soon.

#5. I'm very confident that UD does not have a prayer in hell of entering the BE, but were they somehow to be evaluated against VCU down the road, I would be scared to death if I were a UD fan. The castle has been breached. The precedent has been set. UConn's entry into the Big East smashes the public versus private criterion. With that accomplished, VCU blows away UD on every key metric, especially with respect to market area and size of Fanbase. Gopher Hass to be ecstatic at this point, having learned of the UConn news.

Finally, Cheech, it sounds like you need to fire up some charts and graphs like Muddy once did to explain how UD was going to pass Xavier's program. We are always up for a good laugh around here.

Pretty much sums it up.

Butler...lil brother?!? As an outsider sitting in Nebraska, I would have thought X was below Butler in the pecking order. They’ve had two recent national runner ups and were a Gordon Hayward heave away from winning a natty. X has topped out at elite 8 right? You guys have a great program but so does Butler.

Also: Xavier v Cincy is my favorite rivalry to watch. I think it’s better than Carolina/Duke. It always feels like a fight is about to break out at any moment. Usually one of, if not the most, intense games all year.

I don't want to be too hard on Butler here, but Xavier has absolutely dominated the head to head series with Butler, even in the Brad Stevens years. We've won 30 of the last 40 games in the series since Pete Gillen was hired in 1987. Butler was fortunate to break through in the tournament twice further than Xavier ever has, but we've undoubtedly been the better program the last 40 years. Since joining the Big East, we've won 10 of 14 games.

Butler has never been higher than a 4 seed. Xavier has been a 3 seed twice, 2 seed once, and a one seed once. Xavier has 28 NCAA tournament appearances to Butler's 16. Butler's had like 4 NBA draft picks all time. Xavier has had 39 players drafted.

If UD and X were again in the same conference, this board would quickly devolve into a burning pile of unreadable crap.

Serious question: looks like ESPN might be forcing AaaaC to expand and you’ve been mentioned a lot over there (as you have here) for expansion. Would you jump out of the A10 for them? Also, will the A10 get back to being a top 7 basketball conference, removing any desire togoto the AaaaaaC?

It's been awhile since I stopped by... and quite surprised to see UD again having a thread. Not sure why this is, but to comment on your questions Django:

1. The move of Olympic sports to the AAC is very divisive amongst the UD fan base. Many of use want to dump the A-10 and go today, not because of the poor MBB league performance recently, but rather because the bottom half of our league has no commitment to MBB. Neither their financial commitment nor facilities are Division 1 caliber. My reluctant personal vote would be to accept an AAC invite despite the concern with football. But I don't see that occurring as UD administration values MBB as the conference focus.
2. I think the A10 will bounce back- the core of Rhody, UD, Davidson, Bonnies, VCU, SLU and GW. Duquesne is upgrading their facilities finally. We have historically been a multiple bid league.

Congratulations on adding UConn- great for your conference. For the last few years my strong take is that UD was never going to be invited. And we have not earned that privilege. When Creighton was added, the writing was on the wall. UCONN is a no brainer, and my personal guess would be SLU next.

Also, our close neighbor X deserves their success today in MBB, and would certainly not want their advantage in conference affiliation to be eroded. With all due respect, its the only advantage they have over UD institutionally in quantifiable areas of academics, research and institutional financial performance. And frankly if you have not been to the UD Arena and campus in the last 2 years- you have never been to UD. Its a very special place, expanding, bringing in corporate partners in research, and is a venue any BE team would enjoy. There would not be a single empty seat at the Arena...ever...and while we can't currently match X's awesome MBB performance- rest assured any one of your teams would find themselves in a very competitive game.

Best of luck to X and the BE and I look forward to crossing paths in MBB as OOC foes at some point ahead.

It probably wouldn't be the worst idea for Dayton to try to upgrade their football and join the AAC. Dayton is in fertile football recruiting area. I question if UC would be in favor of that though
