I feel either Dayton or VCU would be an excellent addition to the Big East. Since the most recent reconfiguration, UD has won more NCAA tournament games than any current member, outside of Villanova and Xavier. Even in Lunardi's preseason rankings for the upcoming year, UD and VCU are both projected higher than every BE team besides Nova, SH and Marquette, and this is in a year where the BE is expected to be strong, and the A10 is considered to be dying. There's no telling how much stronger those programs would become if they had BE money and TV coverage to aid in their recruiting. Look at the advances Xavier made. To say UD would add nothing is also wrong. They would travel as well as anyone to the BET, even when their team is having an off year. Also they would provide the conference with it's best rivalry on day one. The Xavier/Dayton rivalry isn't based on geography, it's based on pure hatred for each other, which makes for the best kind of rivalries. Also UD games make for great TV, due to the fanatical fan base. UD will be playing in Maui this year with UCLA, Kansas, and Michigan St. among others. Don't be surprised if UD travels better than any of them.

The Christi Hester incident was unfortunate but is being overblown by Xavier fans. She herself acknowledges all the support she received from UD fans following the incident. Every fan base has it's share of jerks, including all current members, and all former members as well. Don't get me started on Syracuse, and UCONN fans. A more despicable, uncouth bunch you won't find anywhere, but that doesn't mean I don't want them in the conference. I've been to many A10 tournaments in both Brooklyn and Atlantic City, and have always found the Dayton folks to be avid fans, and good people to discuss college basketball with. Additionally, I don't feel it would have an adverse effect on Xavier's recruiting, I have no recollection of seeing any potential recruit saying both Xavier and Dayton are among his final three schools. Xavier has the upper hand on UD now, and that would likely continue into the foreseeable future.

Finally I spent a number of weekends in the UD ghetto (the student housing neighborhood off campus) back when i was in college, and it's as crazy and fun a college experience as you'll find anywhere. I would love to return to Dayton for a BE game, and experience the nostalgia and pandemonium, that would likely ensue, should they be elevated to a big time college basketball conference. And i won't be afraid to wear my Johnnies gear in their building either.

UD fans like Cheech are clearly delusional. We own UD. UD is not on the rise. Xavier is just fine. The BE does not want or need UD and UD will never get an invite to the BE.

UD needs to worry about competing in the A10, where they struggle as much as succeed. Seriously, UD, know your place and do something in March and maybe Xavier will give you a buy game in 2021.

It is well known that Lunardi is an idiot. His rankings mean nothing. And VD fans are the worst! The Christi Hester thing is completely consistent with their treatment of Chris Mack. Moreover the Cryers have never committed a single foul at VDS Arena. Frankly if I had my way, the cryers will never sniff the Big East. No issue with their team, although they are pretty mediocre, but just with their petty and highly annoying fans.
Xavier will surprise. Never count them out of the Dance.

Cheech is Exhibit A as to why cryer fans are so obnoxious. Absolutely no grounding in reality with respect to either the Muskies or the cryers.

_lh wrote:VCU and UD are never getting into the BE. They add no value. The 11 teams we have are perfect without needing to add anyone, EVER.

Now, the BE might want to add a team but VCU and UD will never be in the want category. Sorry.

The guy said:

The Big East can sit and wait until a candidate forces the Conference to add them through great NCAA performance. Hopefully that’s VCU and the program pushes late into March this year.

Which is reasonable. X fans can scream all they want, but VCU and Dayton are #12 candidates if they can go on a significant run. I think VCU is closer than Dayton. No value? For one, they'd both probably pack MSG better than Xavier fans.

I would take Dayton over VCU everytime. Can't trust those public schools they have to much power. Dayton is the most viable, Gonzaga is too far, Notre Dame blackmailed into the ACC, Boston College has football, St. Joe's is in Philadelphia, St. Bonnie is in the middle of nowhere, all the other Catholic schools basketball programs are much worse than Dayton. They would be a great boost to the conference middle tier.

Look, TV and Money will drive the BIg East to 12 or more over the years. It’s just going to happen. X fans should embrace the rivalry. Let’s keep these posts and come back to them during the course of the season. Dayton will be top 20 team. Make noise in Maui and hopefully the way the NCAA works they will put X vs Dayton in NCAA match. Hopefully Xavier will make the dance. The league needs more inventory and teams In the NCAA especially when the Power 5 realign again. Credit to Val and the Presidents to be open and take UConn. Back to good friend at X who thinks I may be delusional. I follow the league very closely , grew up with the Big East coming from NYC and always root for them to beat the Big Boys. We want in and would be a great addition. X fan, this will be a tough next 3 yers for you as the tide turns and we pass you again. Let’s have fun and see what happens this year. I will be sure to keep you up to date on The Flyers!!

In the end, nobody can tell Xavier who to play. Without devolving into a realignment argument (I think everyone can agree that we're good at 11 for a while), I just find it a little strange that a rivalry of X/UD's level don't happen more often. Part of me wishes that Nova has a real rival. I don't know the exact detail of Dayton's boorish fan behavior, so I'll just let it be.

Whoa, Lots of BAD information in this thread. X and UD are indeed a rivalry, dating back to 1920 and comprising 158 games, and to top it off it’s an official TROPHY game!

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackbu ... rty_Trophy

Creightons only rival is our in-state public school Nerdbrasketball, who we are all knotted up with in a series that goes back more than a century but took a 40 year hiatus after a fistfight broke out in the final minutes of a game in Lincoln that Creighton was way out of front of. But again they’re using football money to build facilities and buy Fred Hoiberg. Got them in Omaha this year and you can bet the series is heating up, LOTS of hate on both sides.
