Questions For Dayton Fans

Postby Django » Tue Jul 02, 2019 9:48 am

I guess my first question is why do y’all continue to take all this abuse over here and what the hell did you do to Xavier for them to hate you more than Cincy (from what it seems lately)???? Lol

Serious question: looks like ESPN might be forcing AaaaC to expand and you’ve been mentioned a lot over there (as you have here) for expansion. Would you jump out of the A10 for them? Also, will the A10 get back to being a top 7 basketball conference, removing any desire togoto the AaaaaaC?

A10 is a better fit for Dayton.

AAC, if they expand, needs a 12th football team.

AAC-Dayton seems like a match that benefits neither.

The only relevant thing that Dayton has ever done from a Georgetown perspective is prevent those Canadians (Syracuse) from advancing in the tourney a couple years ago. They bring nothing of value to the conference.

Dude should chime in as a UD fan.

I’m not a UD fan but as a fan of college basketball in general I see no reason for UD to jump to the LOLC. Those losers are all trying to leave the league and who wants to voluntarily play Tulane, South Florida, Eastern Carolina or travel to OK from OH to play anyone other than OU or OSU.

The A10 is a good fit for UD. XU did very well in that conference. It is not currently holding UD basketball back. The A10 is no where close to as good of a league as the BE but either is the American.

VCU has been mentioned as well, but I wouldn’t want to go. No reason UD should either, unless the A10 gets raided.

So the case for Dayton. First UD fits the original criteria when the Big East was reformed. We are a like school with strong catholic background, great tradition , rabid Fan base and a stellar reputation across the country for building and running the program long term the right way. Dayton is also financially strong with an endowment that would put it ahead of several of the schools already in the conference. With the addition of UConn the conference will once again reignite its East coast rivalries. Dayton would add the same to the midwest. We have a larger East coast alumni population than any of the other schools, Xavier...Marquette...Creighton..Butler or Depaul and as a fan base we travel. We would help fill the Garden and be very prominent in away games on the east coast. The angst between us and Xavier is perfect and that’s what makes Rivalries great. The old Depaul /Dayton games were also great and we more so than any other school would fill there empty building. Our building is first class and would sell out for each Big East game. TV respects Dayton we are heading to Maui Classic for the 2nd time in 5 years more than any Big East school sans Villanova. The secondary sports would be easy travel and build there own rivalries and be cost effective. To make fun of the location of Dayton is just ignorant and unfair. The campus is Beautiful and the location of the Arena perfect as the NCAA would tell you renewing the First Four the past 3 times . Last....you are about to see Dayton have it’s best next 3 years in History . We have our best team that we will enter season with since I started watching in 1971. So we will make National noise and win in March and the attention would be great for Big East who suffered a let down last season. Perfect Fit.

Abuse? It's a basketball message board so I don't feel abused. Posters repeating a lot of things they have no clue about, i.e., Dayton is a hellhole. Nothing could be further from the truth and I traveled for years to every major market in USA.

re: X and UD, the only conclusion I could draw is it was an outcome of competing in the same conference for so many years.

re: AAC? I trust my sources and they're convinced the feeling is mutual between UD & AAC and that is a mutual disinterest. After Wichita State's first campaign there were rumors there was interest by the AAC basketball schools in adding 2 more basketball schools but I think its apparent now UCONN was priming that pump and they clearly found a better option in the Big East.

re: A10 a top 7 conference? Supposedly the A10 will have an up year next year with the top 4-5 teams returning a lot of veteran players but honestly the A10's issue is too many schools without financial resources and/or commitment and they really belong in Patriot or MEAC.

BTW UCONN to Big East on is paper pure genius, it will be interesting to see what outcomes reeling in the years produces.

re:Dude Anon? while I like his sentiment he is not a Flyer fan.

It looks like Xavier's an opportunistic bunch. Why don't they play Dayton? You don't see Providence telling URI to get lost.

Who knows what might happen in the future with respect to Xavier and Dayton resuming play, but what shut it down and shut it down hard was this:

As usual XU Dash is right on point here. The Xavier/dayton relationship has gone toxic. So many stories of regular Xavier fans being treated badly up there would keep me away from attending a game there (trips in recent years to Marquette and Butler were extremely positive).
X and the the fliers did have a historic history together(heck dayton even has a very long losing streak in Cincinnati to Xavier that stretches back to when Jimmy carter was president). Xavier was a major player in getting dayton into the A10 when their venture into the Great Midwest Conference didn't pan out for them. With Xavier and Butler out of the A10 now the door is wide open for them to dominate that league on a yearly basis much like the Musketeers did for years.
And less one forget, the two schools did meet up down in Orlando Florida a few years back in the finals of the Thanksgiving Advocare tournament, so there's always a possibility to meet again in a future NCAA game.
