This is disappointing. Val Ackerman must have received consulting advice from Tom Shatel on this decision.

(Hopefully this is wrong) This reminds me of the Texas Longhorns abandoning the burning wreckage of the Southwest Conference in the mid-90s to merge with the old Big Eight. We saw what happened there. Texas used its outsized influence to dominate leadership until it drove core members away fifteen years later. They and the Big XII have been paying for it ever since. I could see UConn playing a miniature version of Texas in this scenario and having the same effect.

Short-sighted. Lacking imagination. Bad move.

If this thread was the movie "Hoosiers", then Gtmo would be the Barbara Hershey character that was a wet blanket and nagged Gene Hackman.

Who is Max Bowers?

Who the f--- is Max Powers? Also it's nothing like Texas to the Big 8. Where are the Big East members going to go? The A-10? It's more likely that UConn would leave than any current member.

I have been hoping for UConn to return to the Big East for a long time. They have been my #1 expansion candidate. I anticipate this will result in a better upcoming TV contract for all 11 of us. Also, this past year we had the #1 attended conference tournament, so it's exciting to think about how much UConn can add to our rivalries/attendance/ratings/etc.

As a St. John's fan, I know half of us aren't happy (scared?) with your return given our regional rivalry, but most Big East fans are excited. Can't wait to add another MSG home game to our schedule each year. :)

Scared? LMFAO are you shitting me.
Why bail them out when they tried to f us and leave not once but twice, but now we'll bail them out of that garbage conference, resurrect their basketball program, and then try to bail a 3rd time (history usually repeats itself), but when they try for the 3rd, I hope they succeed and the ACC take them. They'll say hahaha thank you idiots for saving our bball program, but f ya now, we're out of here. Hell, I'll even be laughing when they clown this conf. This is just the dumbest move ever.
Everyone is acting like ohhhh UConn is the B.E. savior, what a load of BS this is.

I personally say a big FU to UConn, yeah everyone and I won't be apologizing either.

Everyone? I literally haven’t seen a single person even hint at the idea that UConn will be saving the Big East. This doesn’t have to be any sort of zero-sum. It’s a clear beneficial move for the Big East, our programs, and both of UConn’s basketball programs.

I expect this board to be rooting for UCONN in every AAC game this year. ;)[/quote]

I vote that UConn should do everything they can to miss the tourney this year. Dont leave any more tourney credits behind to them.

Nobody's saying they're a savior - we don't need a savior. But if you can't recognize that their brand adds value to our conference, you're as delusional as the AAC fans who think their league is even fit to wipe our ass.

And if they leave in a few years? So what, good for them. Perhaps they need us more than we need them, but we absolutely benefit from this arrangement even if it isn't permanent. They contribute both money and reputation, and personally I'll be surprised if they don't deliver results as well.

They can just get serious for aac bubble teams and Memphis. But I don't think they get 4 bids next season anyway.

If the BE is so much better than the AAC (I'm not saying it is, but this board seems to hold that opinion), then how will this move "save" UConn's basketball program? They've been awful the last three years. If they can't win in the AAC how are they going to win in the supposedly much better BE?
